How much do you think I should get it for then?? Your saying that is high? I mean... the invoic on the car is : $28,871. I knwo there is a $1500 cash back incentive which brings the car to $27,371. So getting it for $27,500 means dealer is only making $200. Thats too high??

Is that the dealer sticker invoice? If so, that isnt really the invoice price. You should be at least into the 26,000's for a good deal.

That price is from Edmunds. I can't get any dealer to go into 26000 range. That was as far as they would go. I dont know how you people are telling me to go lower.. but I will try again tommorow I guess.

In May 2001, I paid $28,400 for a brand new TLS without Navi and this was merely 2 months after the Type S was released. This was back when people were paying MSRP for the Type S. You have to be really lucky, but try to see if you can take it for $27k even. Even that price seems like a good deal because the navi alone is worth about $2k so even if you value it at $1500 now, you're getting the car for $26k.

Its kinda pricey considering its not a Type-S and considering the fact that the new TL is out... nobody would be interested in old models if they can get the new one.

Is the $1500 cash back an incentive from ACURA, or from the DEALER? If it is from Acura, then the dealer is making a bloody ton of a profit you're not considering - and then taking back some of the rebate being offered to you.

If the price is $28,871, minus a $1500 ACURA rebate, then the absolute MOST you should pay is $27,371 - your final price should be WELL below this. The dealer will already make 3% for the HOLDBACK FEE (Click) , plus all of their other normal profits. They are making a killing at $27,500. Not trying to insult you, but I highly recommend the 10-Step guide at Edmonds.com. Be sure to click all the links, and read all the other information available from these pages:10 Steps (Click Here)
I used it for my wife's last car, and I saved a ton and really ticked off the salesman, as every move he had I was able to counter.

I did a search at edmunds for a 2003 TL with Navigation (not Type-S), for New York, and the TMV (True Market Value) came to $28,021 - this includes the $500 destination charge, and does NOT include the $1500 rebate. If the rebate is supposed to be on top of everything else, I would be negotiating for $26,500 or less and go from there. Either way, the dealer still makes a GUARANTEED 3% of sticker from Acura. 2% would be plenty.

Hope this helps!

See if you can swing a deal on a TypeS w/ navi for a LITTLE more.
I'm sure they could work something out b/c they want to move the older TL's off the lot.

Haha... Im j/k... this is for my fiance. I just thought I'd be a sarcastic ass. Not that rich. And... btw.. whoopidoo... Im not insulted by ur post, I actually appreciate it. Learning is something I show no pride in... I will learn not being ashamed.

Thank You

But one question.. you said that on Edmunds it said that the TMV value was 28,871, how do you know that this price didnt factor in the rebate issue already? Would it specify? Since I saw the TMV value to be under invoice already, I assumed that the 1500 was already discounted off the invoice. Let me know...and thanx for all that info!!

Well, one of the links from Edmunds.com (on the first page - click "Incentives and Rebates) allows you to look for current incentives/rebates available from all of the auto manufacturers. The problem is, you have to use the specific zip code, as they do different promotions in different places at different times. I was using 10002 for New York (as I don't know yours specifically, and it was the first hit on Google). At this particular zip code, I saw *NO* rebates from Acura, but they may have one in your area.

The "True Market Value" is basically just an average price for your area for a specific car. For example, a convertible my be worth 10K in Florida in July, but worth 8K in Michigan in January. Personally I think it is more valuable for used cars, but it does give a good starting point.

Since I did not show a specific rebate for 10002 zip, the TMV I was shown didn't include a rebate. If it does for you though, I would shoot for that lower price. If not, then the "Rebate" comes from the dealer (meaning its a load of hooey - a way to get you in the door) and yea - about the best price you will get will be the one you have now ($27,371). I wouldn't go any higher than that - they still get the 3% holdback. If nothing else I would make them throw in floor/trunk mats or maybe something else you want that adds up to a few hundred into the deal.

Another thing to note - Dealer INVOICE is not the same thing as Dealer COST - two different animals. Holdback is a part of that. Also manufacturers may offer other incentives only to dealers (and invisible to the consumer). Plus some other things I currently can't think of due to my hangover. :smokin: So don't let the salesman tell you they aren't making money - they make plenty. Just remind him that he is making a mint on the 2004 TL's to make up for your sale - everyone is still paying close to full sticker.

My reading of the Edmunds site is that rebates and dealer incentatives are not figured into the TMV and you have to subtract them from the TMV to get to the rock bottom price.

Watch out for them. They tried to trick me into buying a used car (anything over 15 miles is used to me if I'm asked to pay full price). The guy said they were doing the pinstripes and adding mudguards to the car I was negotiating on and so I could test drive a similar car. Well, what they didn't tell me was that car had 500 miles on it. I took all the papers I was in the process of signing and tore them and threw them on the floor and left as soon as I found out. Those bastards...
