is this the same thing as what some dealers may call a "fuel system service?"
my dealer is saying they'll flush the injectors, clean the throttle body, intake valves, and combustion chamber for $149 but I've got a $100 gift card to use that the dealer gave me.

My dealership wants to perform the "Fuel Induction Service" for $190. Do you guys think it's worth it? I'm thinking $190 is to high.

I haven't noticed anything major in regards to hesitation or idle issues. The car does idle a little rough but overall is smooth. I'm at roughly 38,xxx and change right now.

In terms of gas mileage I haven't checked it recently but my guess is that I'm not getting horrible gas mileage but bellow average.

You can do every thing they would by running seafoam thru your car for 10 bucks.

Here's a solid post giving details on what Seafoam is and how to use it.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=seafoam

I'll probably do it before my next oil change.

I suddenly am getting crappy gas mileage as well. At first i thought it was because i recently switched from mid grade to 93 octane fuel, but maybe it is the ethanol. I did notice that all my local gas stations have that sign that says it may contain "up to 10% Ethanol"...

^ probably it. depending on what they run in TX they may be running some type of a winter blend in the fuels around you as well. spark plugs, dirty injectors, o2s, any thing could cause it. (and no there is no real way to test)

Search Seafoam in this forum for a complete 6 page pics and description and testimonials to the product

It is the same chemical that the machine at the dealer uses except we put it straight into an intake vacuum line-

while the machine mixes the cleaner with gasoline and plugs that combo into the fuel inlet line to the engine

So simple everyone should do it! How often depends on your car- most think 15 thou miles between uses is fine

im in texas and am a poor college student
i got my 2001 TL 08/24/2006
since then ive been putting in 89 instead of the suggested 93

ive recorded my mileage on every gas reciept and just totaled it up
3418 miles to 190 gallons
thats roughly 17.8 miles per gallon
most of my driving is on the interstate,
however i do drive spiritedly (80+ on the highway (its how most texas drivers are)) so i assumed that was the reason for my bad mileage
but now that im looking at the total mpg for the past few months
and i suspect it might be because of something else

what do yall think

Thats low for hwy, i typically get 28-30 at those speeds. For starters start using 93. also try the above sea foam. and when were your plugs changed last? what psi r u running. Make sure they are atleast 32. (36-40 will yield better mileage and handleing)

I drive pretty much the same way you do and my gas mileage is about the same, too, so I think the ethanol might have a little something to do with it, but a heavy foot prolly does, too... hahaha

Step 1: Stop running 89 Octane and step up to at least 91 Octane.

And 80+ on the highway would not explain the 17.8 MPG result by itself.

but it depends kris...

i mean ur now bringing up cruising... i dunno about u.... and wonder y someone with a TLS6 would cruise... but he might be changing lanes often , he might be cutting ppl off or overtaking.... accelerating vigourously.... speeding around 100 miles... who knows.. that could all reduce mpg...

personally me... these are my stats.. i've been very concerned with my fuel rating so i double checked and it came out exactly like the EPA estimate... 19MPG and 28MPG highway or higher (if i cruise or don't race).

these are canadian stats so u us ppl can do the conversion for a change

about 50 litres (this is me driving for about 40km after the light came on, i'm pretty scared to get stranded cuz its soo damn cold) TOP OFF FULL TANK at the gas station at 94 octane (the highest we have here )

TL drove for about 480KM, thats 85% local, 15% highway.

filled tank for 20 litres, drove for 166KM 100% local
filled tank for 10 litres, drove for about 110KM 100% local (good driving?)
filled tank for 20 litres, drove for 130KM 100% local (RACING, HARD ACCELERATION)

filled tank for 50 litres (FULL TANK), drove for 380KM 80% LOCAL, 20% HIGHWAY, LOTS OF RACING, and spirited runs... hard acceleration.

so my conclusion is.. i think my car is running like its supposed too.. even though there is a slight vibration when i start and stop the car.... after reading the forum.. i think i need some of that SEAFOAM stuff... too bad we dont' have it here in canada... i hate ordering things through the mail.... its so damn slow.

hope this report helps.

other things from my report:

TRUNK emptied, no subs.

40% of the time its just me driving alone, 60% of the time its with 3 passengers in the car (total of 4 ppl)

225/40/18's are the tires... running exactly at 32PSI, now its winter so it might be a lil lower... (these are my winter rims lol)

AC IS NEVER ON , its always set to AUTO with AC OFF.

203404 KM's on the car...

as u can see i do a LOT OF DRIVING.... and i think i know what i'm talking about since i gas up abotu 20$ every other day.... plus my stats are exact... if i say 40% that litereally means 40% .. not no estimate or mumbo jumbo.

HOPE IT HELPS!

The 2001 tl does not have cap and rotor or plug wires, its all done with the coils on the plugs- pretty trick stuff

With the general poor quality fuel and winter weather blends, it would probably serve every member of this board to pull a 10 spot out of the pocket and hand it to the parts place for a can of Seafoam. 30 minutes out of your day for tune up in a can DIY project

While replacing spark plugs every 25thou would not hurt- its a bit of overkill for the average driver- ok for heavy foot hard revving gas guzzling members to do

Yes K&N air filters (and oil filters) are held in high regard for the durabilty- easy clean and improved airflow to the engine.

WARNING SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the "SURGE IN IRAQ" the govt is doing now, expect gas prices to go way above the 3 something a gallon from last year and to skyrocket to maybe 5 dollars a gallon

Now who thinks every single thing you can do to get a little tiny bit of mileage increase is well worth it???- pays offf fast at those prices!

And lets all remember that our winter boots are much heavier than the summer shoes- so the extra weight can be pushing the gas pedal harder- or you may be going faster than normal because of it

Well at least thats the story I keep ready for LE discussions,
OH! Sorry! First time driving the wifes car with my boots on, had no idea they were so heavy on the throttle! Usually drive my old truck Totally not used to driving this car- Wasnt ME speeding- it was the boots!

You dont really expect the Americans do go to a conversion page and do the numbers do you?
Help out the Yanks eh! We will buy you a beer sometime!
Heck back in 1972 they tried putting both miles am Kms on the road signs- people protested and they were all removed. Only in the last 2 years have a few returned with both measures.

If we were really smart we would buy petrol by the litre.... it just feels good seeing .75 cents on the ad board- to bad 4 of them dont make a us gallon!

I fill up every day in the TL, I to do ALOT of driving (in the past 5-6 months since ive finished the TL 6 Project ive put 17k on it and its only been driven 1/4 the time. I put 40-70k a year on between my 2 cars.

at 200k miles on my TL-P i always averaged 28+ on the hwy, many times well into the low 30s at 80. Even at 80 he should be getting MORE than 17.8 mpg (hell im getting 15.4 in my expedition on the hwy as a average at 80) Something isnt right to be getting that low of mileage. Im VERY hard on my car and i dont think ive gotten that low yet. NOW if that were mainly city or maybe a little mix i would say thats normal.

Also in winter you should keep your tires inflated a little more. You dont want a large contact patch. It reduces traction in snow. Also in the summer it will help having it higher as well. Less rolling resistance and better mileage, and better handeling..

Oh believe me i dont do it often I love watching the tach swing. sometimes ill go into the manual lanes at the toll booth instead of using the ipass lanes just to give it hard again
Last 2 trips to IL i got 420 and 443 to a tank average speed around 80

23-31MPG consistantly Depending on how much Highway driving I do. No jack rabbit starts and I keep the RPMS under 2500. I open her up very occationally and check my mileage evertime I fill up=Miles driven divided by amount of gas bought. My gas guage is not consistant. Sometimes when I fill up it shows only to the full line and other times over. Common problem with TL's as I understand it.

through the dealer i work for ( as a tech ) for less than $140 w/ tax.(cleaning throttle body & running top engine cleaner through intake manifold) is what we charge for the induction service, which is an acura part/chemical. find out what the $300-$400 service includes. other "aftermarket" cleaners/additives/services may be more or added to this service @ other dealers. every dealer is different w/ this type of service.
