I LOVE opening all the windows and cruising on the highway with loud music.

beats AC any day of the week (well, when it's sunny )

V_Langs... Your fantastic fuel economy is likely just perception. Your signature says: Wheel Gap Is The Enemy...
Dropped on Function and Form Type 1s. So I am guessing you put smaller than stock tires? If so when your speedo says 60mph you might be only traveling 55mph. Overall you are logging far more miles on your Odometer than stock. For example your Odometer says 200000 miles, but possibly due to tire size, your car might only actually have 190000 miles on it.
There are benefits to smaller diameter tires.. faster acceleration, better cornering, and the perception of better fuel economy.
I swapped my tires on my '02 TL-S to '08 rims and tires. The '08 TL tires stock are larger diameter. This give me the perception of lower fuel economy and slower acceleration. But in reality I am actually getting higher overall fuel economy than before due to the change in final drive ratio. Also as a slight added bonus my odometer shows less overall miles. It shows 125000, but might actually have 135000 real miles. I also get the extra negative of probably more speeding tickets, always driving faster than indicated.

One way to possibly verify your now incorrect speedo is to use a portable GPS's MPH display to compare to your installed speedo.

The Honda/ Acura engine is a fantastic engine, but low tension rings, close tolerances, roller bearings, and 5w-20 oil, and VTEC cannot overcome thermal dynamics, aero dynamics, weight, and make a 3.2 V-6 engine obtain 41 mph at the rate of speed that we normally drive.
Sorry to burst your bubble on fuel economy, but for the TL there are few real ways to drastically increase fuel economy. Accelerate like you are stepping on an egg shell up to speed is one. Once you get to 5th gear overdrive, set the cruise control at 50 mph.
Obviously no one wants to drive that slow to save fuel, so it is what it is.

there are charts to run your old and new tire/rim size and see what affect on speedo
On my 01 going from stock 16 to 18 with 45 profile tires corrected the known TL `too fast reading odometer` of 2mph at ~freeway speed~ per roadside radar cks

see tire rack.com as one source for the chart
when you go larger rim and lower profile tire you negate most of the diameter change

Getting the TL up to speed and into the highest gear for the speed (not always 5th!)
is the way to better mileage. Eggshell method isnt as efficient as mild to moderate throttle--2500-3000 rpm auto-shift up to desired speed

Get it to speed and let the ecu do its thing keeping fuel use to a minimum
Cruise control whenever you can- I use it in town if there is no one close to me
above 35 it works fine, prevents those radar trap tickets-

resting your foot on the gas pedal can increase speed without you noticing,,
suddenly 53 in a 35...=$245

the other big fuel saver is to simply watch ahead of you--light goes red, lift off throttle- the decel control system will do its thing to control fuel,
brake early if needed--the idea being you are going 20+ when light goes green- less energy needed to go from 20 to 40, than getting the mass moving from dead stopped--thats where the most fuel is consumed~ (not counting vtec and play use)

try these methods, use your toes to drive-- instead of your knee and hip--seriously- pay attention to the forces and smoothness applied and try it--these are racer tricks for fuel savings and smoothness

randy
when your baby hits 200- its time for a 6speed and rebuilt cl-s engine, made to use a turbo/blower with--lots of mods needed to strengthen the internals and externals

cant imagine the OE front and rear motor mounts would last long in those conditions~

when i tried hypermiling few months ago with my scangauge 2 the highest MPG i got on the highway was between 29-30 MPG. when car hits the perfect ignition timing it would jump to 32-33mpg but that was rare. in the city i get about 20-21 mpg depending on traffic. the airconditioner caused a spike in horsepower at idle, about 4-5 hp if i remember correct, but i noticed use of A/C dramatically increased fuel consumption. i scored 24mpg in city driving once with no air conditioning use. vehicle is bone stock.
