gas tank size
what is the size of our gas tank in the 2001 TL?
i mean i get between 250 and 300 miles per tank before the gas light comes on
which is 13-14 gallons
and i heard that the gas tank was 17.1 gallons
if thats the case why is my light coming on at 13 gallons and im on Empty?
just curious because i think i saw people saying they got 350-400 miles per gallon on a thread and it would make sense if i just had a bad gauge

From the 2001 TL owner manual
Capacity Fuel Tank- Approx 17.17 US Gallons
Low Fuel Indicator- "The light comes on as a reminder that you must refuel soon"
There is no spec listed for actual amout of fuel remaining
First, you gotta love that APPROX 17.17 gal hmmm depending on what????
When the low fuel activates seems to vary by car
Since its always a good idea to refuel before running out, the light comes on, you should be thinking about stopping today for gas.
On long stretches of freeway where there are signs like -next gas 45 miles- an early warning is certainly appreciated!!!

Its totally normal for the fuel gauge to read above full when you fill it, then take forever to go down to 3/4 and 1/2, then rushes to empty.
The shape of the tank and other issues like the fuel temp, air temp and the exhaust pipe temp make ALL gas gauges funny
UNLESS you have an actual fuel used electronic monitor that knows how much fuel is being burned--mostly found on airplanes- its just a close estimate
I get about 300 a tank on my 01 TL, havent checked since the seafoam and ngk irid plugs, still having to much fun to run a normal use tank of gas thru it
Thats why I reset trip A at fillup for fuel economy checks and to remind me its close to fillup time, and use trip B for oil change miles
