I would use what the manual says. I mean it's a matter of 3 to 5 bucks (Canadian, I noticed you were in BC) on a full tank. I was putting premium in my '99 Chev S-10 SS, and I got worse performance out of my truck. I believe the fuel was burning too hot and I wasn't getting the HP or the tork that I was getting when I used regular gas. I thought I would be doing the engine a favour by spending more money on gas. That's when I realized the difference in spending from premium to reg was minimal.

My Experience
You can use lower octane I do , Our cars compression ratio allows us to take advantage of higher octane gas ..it burns slower fuel economy will be better but price is higher so.....we have a knock sensor thats retards timing when using lower octane gas..so we lose a little power..

Haven't even got through a tank yet. I'm dyin' to install my 1200watt Sub and Amp, and go for a cruze. I'm ordering one of thoes OEM kits for $399.99 next week. I have been e-mailing the guy a couple times but I wasn't sure what colour (canadian lol) the car would be. I got it in Heather Mist. Looks Amasing!! Look foward to putting my install pics up on these boards.

$399
Its on discount color for the TL.

You can put in < 91 but you will lose milage and hp. So there is no real savings in putting lower octane since you will get less milage. If you wanted to put in 89, should have gotten an Accord. I usually get 310 miles before the light comes on. That means I have 4 gallons left, so thats 310 miles / 13 gallons = around 24 miles per gallon. Sorry you have to convert that into KM.

It isn't 399 CAN it is acutally in the posts right now, The Kit costs $399.99 USD plus shipping but if you called any dealership to get this part it would be almost triple the cost. I saw quotes for "1200 USD from 5 different dealerships"
These are cheaper b/c they are 99 and 00 models ( the front lip won't fit on the 01 and up ) and they are being blown out for this price. They are Official Acura Parts not a cheap immitation. I will keep the board posted on the results.
I ended up getting a '99 TL low km's driven by a 45 year old woman, with an absolutly anal record keeping on this car, every oil change, every time it was touched by a mechanic. I couldn't believe it, all in a little book organized in the glove box, and she forgot almost 15 buck in gas coupons paperclipped in the center console, seriously anal! But that is amasing for me I couldn't be happier

I put in PetroCan 91 octane and get between 420KM - 440KM on one tank of gas..... Thats when the light comes on. It seems the more I drive it the higher the gas milage got. I also notice a big increase in gas milage after the first oil change??? Weird ? I do a lot of highway driving and some city driving. Congrats on your new ride!!

Residual congrats on your TL, i'm still psyched myself, i've had mine for 13 days now.
Vancity, hopefully we have the same stats here. i saw from your profile that your TL is '02, mine is '00. at least both 5 spd tranny.
i put sunoco 93 in mine on monday and so far i'm @ 254km @ just under half tank. i'm guessin' it's 470-500 km for full tank @ $46-$50 cdn depending on price per/ltr and on what kind of driving you do. *keep in mind 93 octane is 12cents higher than what they post for regular.

Mileage
Hi guys,
I've been getting 550-650 kms per tank of fuel (I run mostly highway). I usually run the 91 or 94 Octane (Sunoco) gas. I find that the higher the octane, the better the fuel economy.
I hope that this helps.

I wish I got 24mpg! I get something like 18mpg, but I never let it get past 1/4 tank. The most I can (and do, gas nazis) get is 91 octane, but it's 110F+ out there and I'm doing city driving. My point, I guess, is that it depends on how you drive the car. (I got something like 28mpg on my first road trip, 90mph most of the way..I think this car likes high speeds..I do)

My 2000 TL was actually a rental car (or a company car) before I bought it. So I'm pretty sure that the rental drivers didn't put in 91, since it's a rental. Does it matter that the first 3 years of its life it was probably getting low-grade? Should I still switch to 91? I'm using the mid-grade right now (89?) Thanks.
