front engine mount
I have a 01 tl that I bought just a few months ago. I brought my car in for a oil change and a checkup because the engine light was on and they told me I have a worn front engine mount. How much approx should a new one cost + labor?

Hmm... I don't know if only a shot engine mount can trigger a CEL.
Well, the OEM engine mounts aren't made to last forever, and usually only go for around 50k-60k miles. There are new aftermarket mounts that have just been developed for the TL/CL, and they are cheaper. I'd try those out, as people have been saying good things about them.
Can someone drop a link to that CL thread?

If it's a vac. assisted one maybe there's a leak that triggered a CEL-? You can get one online for approx. $130. Not sure what book labor is. There's probably a DIY if you want to do it yourself.

Plenty of DIY advice on the board regarding engine mounts. Just do a search and you'll see.
I've changed out the front and side mounts (they usually go together) not a bad job if you have the correct tools (long extensions and a u-joint). I think I paid about $74 for the front and $63 for the side, all OEM.
Perform the simple "rocking test". With the hood open and the engine running, step the brake and at the same time gently tap the gas pedal while watching the top of the engine through to gap between the open hood and the wipers. You should be able to see the engine rock back and forth as you tap the gas pedal no more than one inch.
When I did this with bad mounts, the engine was moving over 3-4 inches and I thought it was going to jump right out of the engine bay !
Good luck !

The CEL wasnt triggered by a motor mount. It was on for some other reason. As for the mount, if you are any bit mechanically inclined you can change it yourself. Its not hard. The mount you can buy here.

You will pay a lot to have it done at a dealer. Its a 30 min job for any competent mechanic. Call some of the smaller shops near you and see what they charge.
