friend jsut bought 00 TL..couple ?'s

The ABS and TCS lights are on. Does this mean there is a problem with the abs system and traction control or are these lights just always lit up? He says he pressed the traction control button and the light wouldn't turn off. So I would assume the traction control is always on?

Thanks in advance.

Traction control is always on, by pressing the button, this turns it off. If the lights are always on you have a problem! That is for both the ABS and TCS lights. Better have it checked out!

when the tcs light is on it means the tcs is disabbled. the default setting for the tcs is on. (every time you start the car its on meaning the light is off) if both those lights are on there is a problem. they may be related seeing the abs and tcs use the brakes to do what they do.

That's interesting, because whenever I don't "turn it on" and by accident, step to hard on the gas on a slick surface (which will create wheel spin) the TCS light flashes, as if it was controling wheel spin.

So, I always thought that when turning it on, you would always have this function for raod conditions such as rain, ice, etc. Where you don't want to take a chance with wheel spin at any given time.

Ok, when you step on it and the TCS light flashes, it IS working. If you hit the TCS button on the dash and then the TCS light is on, that means that TCS is OFF.

The TCS is on at all times unless you turn it off manually by hitting the button.

Confusing, but hope this helps.

cool, it is at a shop getting checked out anyway. Man that mechanic ripped him off. Charged him $110 for the HID Capsule (just the capsule!)

I told him order in online, save yourself the $ but he is one of those guys that doesn't trust anyoneother than the 'mechanic.'

if both lights are on, and DONT go away, you have a problem with you emissions, which deals directly with Fuel Controller and the PCM, i had that, I hope thats not what you have,go get it checked out..you better still be under warranty otherwise you will be dishing out over a G.

Tell your friend that if the Check engine light is always on, he can get the code read for free at several parts stores, Checker, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc.

If it is simply the Maintenence Required light, that is no big deal, it turns on at certain intervals to remind you to take care of routine maintenence.

Please READ the thread more carefully before giving such advice. The TCS & ABS light has NOTHING to do with emissions.

By default, if there is something wrong with the ABS, then TCS will be disabled as well. Since both lights are on, then the FIRST thing you need to have your friend checked out is his ABS (which could be as simple as replacing a wheel sensor, or replacing a whole pump). This happened to me as well and I have a 2002 TLS. If it's a wheel sensor, then it'll be around $200 to fix. If it's the ABS pump, then it'll be over $1000. Luckily both is covered under extended warranty if your friend still has one.

PLEASE dont tell me what to do, and READ what i wrote, I had that problem, I went thru it, i dont pull info out of my ass but from Acura techs as what they told me.

Assumingly we are talking about the signs that appear, when checking engine is always on along with the TCS that is also always on...

TCS alone of course has nothing to do with Emissions.

id have to dissagree with you. both of those lights came on on my car and it was insufficant egr flow code p0401, which is emmisions related. the mechanic told me that both those lights usually do come on when its emissions related.

Teknoking - perhaps I am missing something, the original question was regarding the TCS and ABS lights staying on and nothing regarding the Check Engine light. I think you may have confused this by dands99TL comment? Regardless, if the TCS and ABS lights are stay lit on the dashboard have the ABS (brakes) looked at - could be a number of issues as simple and brake fluid level to a failure with the ABS pump.
