Frequency of topping up motor oil

just wondering if it's normal to be topping up ~0.5L of oil every month? i usually fill it up till the oil is between the min & max lines on the dipstick or maybe a lil past halfway. i'm running Mobil 1 5W-30. does synthetic burn up faster? i never paid attention to checking the fluids that much when i was on conventional oil, so i don't really have a comparison.

ya I'll second that! hondas don't burn unless somethings wrong.
Does your antifreeze look like a rootbeer float? or you smoke blue when you step on it?

BTW how many miles do you have? and when did you switch to synthetic? I ask because it's common for a old motor to develope leaks at the seals after a switch to syn. do to the removal of the sludge build-up.

everything else is running fine & my friends are into the practice of topping up every so often. i'm over 34k km now & i switched at when i did my last oil change about 4k km ago on halloween. i did a top-up in the beginning of dec with my remaining 300-400ml of Mobil1. it brought from a bit over the min line to almost halfway.

i just started checking my fluids after i had a discussion with a friend who topped up the oil in his bimmer and also on his mom's accord. would it be similiar to fuel consumption where driving conditions have an effect? cuz i do 100% city driving and i gotta do lots of idling.

My 2000 now has 52k. Around 42k I had to put 1/2 quart in. Now, after 2 last oil changes (at 45k and 50k) there was no problem - no oil disappeared. So it seems like it just kind of stopped happening. I have no leaks or any other engine problems.

Regarding having it fixed - good luck! Every engine manufacturer says that it is OK to add some oil, sometimes up to 1/2 qt every 1000 miles. So that's what you will hear.

burning will occur if the conditions are severe (alot of time at high rpm, or extreme temps). but it shouldnt be a reoccuring thing. ive gone through over a quart of oil racing about 20laps but durring that the engine spent most of its time around or past redline(9000rpm) but as soon as i drove it normally it wouldnt use a drop i would still recomend getting it looked at if it continues to do it
