Footwell Lighting, No neon lights, but stock Dome Lights

Ok, Forget the neon lights, I went with stock lights so it matches the lights in the interior. I decided to take this a step further and research the option to have a light not only fades out when you enter the car but gives you the option to turn the light on or off and fade like the standard dome light on the roof of the car.

I went to a local wrecking yard and picked up a couple dome lights from older Honda Accords, Civics, and Integras. Some larger and some smaller, but all with the three position switch for ON/OFF/Fade. Cost of each dome light $4.99

As mentioned in other threads, you tap into the positive and negative feed from the dome light connection in the passenger side fuse box. White wire with blue line positive and the black with white line as negative. So the question is how to you have the option to turn the light on?

Easy, honda dome lights have three connections, one positive and two negative. When you take your dome light off from the roof of the car, there are two wires, one is white with a blue line, positive, and one of a another color, negative. The second negative connection is the screw or nut holding the dome light to the roof og your car. Your car is negatively charged. All you have to do is connect the positive and the negative wires and add a third that mounts directly to the frame of the car. You can see that I connected it to a nut located underneath the dash.

I have tested the dome lights on/off option and see it fade when the door closes. This also gives me the option to change the light bulbs to a differnt color unlike the neon lights. I can even turn them off when I don't want the foot wells to be lit or have them on when I want.

Pics at night are definitely due. I've been waiting for something like this ever since I decided the neon sticks I had were too big and took them out~

Is there a way to change the bulb color from white to blue without having to replace the whole system? Cheers! ;)

Jatses: Yes with my method of dome lights all you have to do is change the bulb.

If anyone is interested, I am thinking about making kit for this, would anyone be interested in purchasing a set up for $50, this would include the dome lights w/standard bulbs, pre-preped wiring, double sided tape and wire taps. All wires will be labeled. Should take no more than 30-60 min to install. SHipping is also included in the price.

PM me if you are interested

Would that include shipping and would you still be offering them in 2-3 months? Cheers!

Jatses, yes that would include shipping. And yes, I should have a set laying around, a couple of my friends had already asked me for a set.

Can we not get an OEM Footwell light kit from Acura and should they be able to install it at the dealership ??? I seem to recall these footwell lights were available from Acura.

I don't know, but it is available JDM, I don't see where they would connect into the USDM.
