FINALLY!!! Ordered tranny from Trans-Plant.

Well its been a month that I've been TL-less and needless to say its been the WORST MONTH EVAR! But that will all soon change as I have just ordered my shiny re manufactured trans.

It came out to more than what I've heard but its still a sweet deal i think.

I got quoted at $1545 for the trans with a 2 year 24k mile warranty and shipping there and back. I managed to haggle $150 of the price, which is how much return shipping for the core would be. I'm getting it put in for $450 so all told im paying exactly 2 grand for everything. Not a bad deal, esp consider what the dealer would charge. Ill post pix of how the trans comes in and whatnot and how it feels after i get it in. I just cant wait to get behind the wheel again.

Per an earlier thread, it has a salvage title and, as a result, it's not covered by the warranty.

Is your TL's transmission no longer covered by the extended warranty?

Yeah, while my trans was still working I was debating on getting a extended warranty from that one company that advertises on tv all the time, cant really remember the name at the moment. Too late to conjecture now.

Anyway after doing some research about Trans-Plant it seems that at least a few people have been screwed over by them, hope i dont get the raw end here. It is pretty cheap tho...

No, my car has 141,000 miles on it. Finally threw the dreaded P0740 code last week. Took it in to the dealer and was told it needed a trans. I then told them "good, and while your at it, check out the clunking noise when putting into gear and do an alignment" because I just put a set of tires on it. My extended warranty company covered everything. Talk about a Christmas gift!!

Glad to hear. I was wondering if there was an update to your story as I didn't see any update to the other thread.

Please keep us updated.

If your research revealed that, why did you order one from them? Lowest cost?

if you didn't get an updated trans, your replacement will most likely not last very long.......

Well... i found out about the problems after I ordered. But in any case for the price i'll risk it. Im not planning on keeping the car very long so its gonna be the next owners problem.

The guy i spoke with assured me that both updates have been performed on the tranny and he seemed to know what he was talking about so that gives some comfort.

Anyway the trans is due probably around monday/tues if im lucky damn holidays messing things up. So some time after the new year my car will be ready. Ill put up pix of the tranny when it comes in along with anything else relevant.

Could you please ask him where he's able to get the parts to perform the updates? I talked to him on the phone before I posted about this place on here and he wasn't sure about any updates. In addition, my contacts with Raybestos said that they could not confirm any updates for the 2G TL transmissions.

Well after much ado, i finally got the transmission from Trans-Plant.
They took a while to ship it even though they said they did they day after i ordered, the BOL on the palette said otherwise. Thanks to the holiday season and an apparent truck breakdown it took me almost 3 weeks to get it. But now that its here i figure i'd post some pix so people can see what their gonna get. They're cellphone quality so you wont see too much.

As you can see its been painted, not sure why, definitely not sure why they'd paint it so ugly. Shop's booked till weds but they say they'll have it ready by thurs. One can only hope. Im just happy that I'll be able drive my car again, eventually.

Oh and Soda, when i spoke to Vinny he seemed to know about the two updates explicitly and said that they only use honda rebuild kits, so hopefully this one will last a while longer than my other two.

Strange....the tranny I had put in by my Acura dealer list price was $1550 and they charged my warranty company just under 6 hours to put it in at $100/hr and I got a 3/36 warranty. Wonder why there's such a price/warranty discrepancy? How much was your Acura dealer wanting for the job??
