Unhappy Factory alarm goes off for no reason!

Fellas,

Big/mysterious problem...have a 2000 TL and for some reason, the alarm has been going off for no reason!!!

Anyone have a similar problem or know of a possible solution? I'll take into dealer and assume it's covered under warranty, etc. but it's killing me that the car is doing this.

At first it would go off in the middle of the night, etc. and one time, I just opened my trunk, got some stuff out, then when I closed it, the freaking (loud) alarm went off! I'm positive it's something electrical, etc. and not related to any noise around the car, cat bouncing on it, etc.

Now people are putting notes on my car threatening stuff if I don't get it fixed, etc. Now I'm hesitant about setting my alarm, etc. b/c I don't know when it's just going to go off again..

Thanks for any insight....

It happened to me a few times...usually whenever it was VERY cold out. And of course, like you, it goes off in the middle of the night so I have a heartattack Grab the bat and head outside only to find that the doors are locked and everything looks cool.

Damn, same crap with me...middle of the night, go out, and everything looks cool...may be the weather b/c been unusually cold in California past few days...

Did you ever get it looked at it by the dealer or otherwise or did the problem just go away?

sound like a mal func...take it to the dealer or replace the alarm with aftermarket if you don't have warranty left.

My TL had the same problem when I first got it. 2001 had a small problem with the "Brain" of the alarm system. The dealer said it was a known problem in some years and replaced the brain. Since then I've had no problems.

thanks for the info...it's at the dealer now and they're going to insulate my remotes (whatever that means) then replace the hood and trunk switches...apparently, a car had a similar problem a while back with them and now they "know how to approach the problem"....he made it sound like they would know right away if this fixes it b/c the alarm would go off right away......if none of this works, I'll have them take a look at the brain...thx

Strange though, I never associated my problem with the cold though. My alarm DID go off in the middle of the night a few times, and once while at work. I never knew if it was the remotes that were malfunctioning, or the car... but the dealer said that some TL's had Brain's that were going haywire... so they replaced it.

does that mean there's a standard way to fix it or just that it's been reported, etc.?

My mom's RL used to do the same thing. She ended up taking it back to the dealer 4 times before they finally fixed it. The first time they said they can't duplicate the problem. After 4 visits they finally replaced the whole system. Also, it only happened when she changed the CDs in the changer in the trunk

well, they insulated the remote and replaced the switches on the trunk and hood...we'll see if this thing wakes me up at 2 am again....

thx for all the feedback

also, I was looking through the manual and it says that even if you don't set the alarm, if you just close all the doors, it should set itself after 15 seconds...does anyone's actually do that...mine does not.

Mike, if service bulletin exsists I think it should be a standart fix for the problem. Maybe just tell them TSB number when you go to dealer.

I had my remotes insulated and it fixed the problem. My alarm used to go off at like 3am while parked in a closed & locked garage underneath my bedroom

It still goes off after changing the switches and insulating the remotes...they're going to order a new "brain" for my alarm and hopefully that will fix it.

I brought this to their attention (dealer) about 6 months ago and they insisted that because I had an aftermarket remote start unit hooked up to the factory alarm that was causing all the problems

The saga continues...

Acura of Pasadena went into to replace the brain of the alarm and determined I have an aftermarket system!!!

They swear it is and if that is true, that is a huge f*cking issue b/c I bot it (new) from Cerritos Acura thinking everything was stock.

If after taking it into Cerritos, I find out it is aftermarket for whatever reason, some f*cking sh*t is going to hit the fan!!!! I swear some f*cking heads will roll...

ok...now that I've calmed down and got more info, turns out the alarm system itself is stock, just that cerritos put on some shock sensor system, etc. this could be the culprit, maybe not but we'll find out...I couldn't recall getting this but looking through paperwork, looks like I did get it almost 3 years ago, damn! also forgot but I also got some other crap that protects paint and leather...thinking back, didn't need any of this crap and will NEVER get aftermarket "enhancements" from a dealer when buying a new car again...just freaking profit for them and waste of money for us...
