Exterior Body Color Door Molding 2000 TL
My car door moldings are peeling... three of them have the clear coat cracking off and one had the actual paint coming off!
One of the awesome body shops that I took my car to decided to leave the molding on and paint over it! Now that the paint was cracking off the molding... I had to cut an edge where there was some overlap and seal it... I hope it holds up or the passenger door may start to peel up : ( I used a clear adhesive that is used for our emblems to seal the edge.
So first, I was going to see if I could get to the old paint underneath on the molding and buff it up to a shine... Well, it was kind of a pink and not taffeta white like the rest... so scratch that idea... I'll have to just replace it...
I decided to try and remove the door molding.... I looked for pics and the parts diagram is here with part numbers...
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no
Notice, it only shows one clip and when I called... The service guy said it was one with a bunch of adhesive double sided tape under it... This is not true... I found no adhesive, but there is a rubber-like seal withing the top portion.
Below are some pictures of the molding off... yanked it off lol carefully... and the damn clips fell inside the door so I had to remove the inner door panel to go after them because I didn't want them to rattle around... Somehow I slid one into the metal supporter tube... doesn't seem like it's rattling, but whatever... I'll just always know it's there if the fate of the world somehow may depend on it in the future...
I would suggest taking the door panel off, peeling back the plastic (white trashbag-like) divider and squeezing the clips with a pair of pliers from the inside... The right way to do it, so you don't break any. and make sure your body shop removes them, blends and/or either paints them separate...
Hope this helps someone

When I created the message... Click the "Add Attachment" button... it will have an easy uploader popup... Then browse for the file and make sure your picture is within the max parameters they have set for the type of picture file or whatever you are trying to upload... ie .jpeg, .png. etc
After that, click the upload button and close the popup window... and preview message to check...
