Exhaust sound on the cheap.

I am really not worried about the money, I just have a hard time putting any real money into a car that was given to me and I really don't need. But it is saving me a bundle on gas. Don't get me wrong, I love the TL but won't put any crazy money into it.

Although, I would like to give it some good exhaust sound, on the cheap.
I have searched and read a lot of threads here, also have shopped on line so I know what is out there. For the guys who have done it and know the car much better than me. for a good exhaust sound for short money is it better to buy an axle back kit and hope that it really does "Bolt on?" Or would it be better to just go to an exhaust shop and have them weld in whatever they are selling that day?

I am not looking for that Honda Civic kazoo stuff. I am looking for a nice smooth louder sound...

THANKS!!!!

Well maybe something a little bit more finished than that.

Get an axle back kit for the car, or just cut out the mid muffler.

I was thinking of a axle back. If I just cut out the Mid muffler, will that produce enough sound to sound well???

cutting the midmuffler should do it. Keep the resonator though.

I see that Magna Flow does not list a kit for the TL.

Mid muffler delete is not loud. You can unbolt the rear mufflers and get a shop to make a flanged straight pipe to the tips. That way you can reverse it easily later on without rewelding anything. You can just unbolt the straight pipes and bolt on the rear mufflers.

Did a KN CAI; nice sound, 12 HP gain.

Did mid-muffler delete, small sound improvement, can't notice any power increase (6.85 sec 0-100 km/hr @15C currently).

Bumbling along now to either Magna resonator, and/or muffler replace (expensive).

thx-kb

i liked my setup, so did others.

i got the tsudo axleback exhaust but that was way too quiet for my taste so i had my midmuffler deleted and it was right on after. an axleback won't be enough for the regular since it'll still be quiet.

here are a few videos for reference:

i like the first video, second video sounds stock?! anyway i tried to get my mid muffler deleted, but none of the shops in my area would do it. they said they could replace the mid-muffler with another one but cutting and running a straight pipe needs real good quality worksmanship. I just wish my car didnt have 3 damn mufflers, so expensive to replace all 3.

i think he said CAI or Cold Air Intake. not just filter. Still 12hp is too much. i would think maybe 1-2hp gain and better throttle response, thats about it.

xtremex< good post and video's thank you!

Pickler, really? is deleting a mid muffler that hard to do? I would think it is just a cut and re weld sorta thing.

Is the Tsudo axle back REALLY just a bolt on? in my experience bolt on kits usually are anything but. Thanks!

deleting a midmuffler is actually what you said. basically they're going to cut the midmuffler out and weld a straight pipe onto there. that's all there is to it.

and yes, the tsudo axlebacks are REALLY a bolt on. all axlebacks and catbacks are bolt ons (unless it's a custom exhaust). the axlebacks are simply two bolts and nuts for each side.

So they could replace the mid muffler (which has to be cut out and re welded) but they couldnt cut it out and put a piece of straight pipe in??? Anyone with welding skills could do that in 30 min and have it done perfectly.
