Exhaust Resonator Gone Bad?

So I have a AV6 magnaflow catback exhaust and I think the 14" resonator that is on there might have gone bad. First, do resonators even "go bad?" The problem is every time I accelerate hard there is a metallic rattling sound at 2400-2500rpm (like a loose heat shield), not sure if its considered resonance or not. I first thought that my XS power headers are loose or cracked, but there are no signs of a leak or anything. So then I thought maybe a heat shield was loose, went under the car and everything seemed tight. I was a bit confused so I just banged on the exhaust pipe to see if I could hear any noise and sure enough there was a sound coming from the resonator. Is this my problem?

hmm. id say take it to a muffler shop so they can get it up on a rack and see what the issue is.. im not sure if resonators can go bad or not.. visual inspection everything looks aight?

Are you sure that the noise isn't coming from the catalytic converter. They go bad and the ceramic interior can come apart and make noises rattling around....

I've always assumed the rattling was coming from the headers, theres no cracks and i got them rebolted and there were no leaks, but still rattling. i hope its not my cat, im going to have it looked at

Well I have the XS headers, and a brand new Random Tech high flow cat (with both resonators removed) and mine still makes the noise. I'm still trying to figure out where it's coming from. I've had the noise ever since I put on the headers. I heard it might be from the flex pipe on the headers so I got a new one welded in and the noise is still there. My next step is to get a new set of headers, put a nice resonator in and get the quietest mufflers I can find.

does any of you guys have this rattle sound that sounds like sheep or goat?
not exactly an animal sound but you get what i mean.

its more noticeable during acceleration from a stop and go.

btw... where is the cheapest place to buy an aftermarket cat converter?
i saw that excellerate sells a universal high flow cat for 70 dollars only.

what are your recommendations?

Hopefully it's not your convertor, although there is another posting on here, as we speak, with that problem. Anyway, stuff can break loose inside a resonator or muffler and make a lot of noise. Good luck.

lol... i didnt really mean it like that , but the rattle and hum had that kinda buzz that resembled them hahah.

I laughed when I read my post again.

ANY WAYS... on a more serious note.

I called acura and they will diagnose it this week. Good news is that my service advisor to me that my Converter has an 8 year warranty.... I thought it was the normal 3year.

I hope it is the connverter cuz the diagnositic fee of 50-120 will also be claimed under warranty.

^^ Thats good.

And after that, if you still hear sheep and goats under your car, stop eating those mushrooms that are growing behind your house. Bad idea. lol
