Exhaust resonator

quick question does removing the exhaust resonator violate inspection tests? also does it get very annoying or is it a low rumble?

yea dont have much money right now and i dont really want a new exhaust until my warranty goes out.

Thanks

it shouldnt affect your inspection test's. there only purpose is to take certin frequencies. i have had mine removed for 2 1/2 years now. ther will be a little deaper exhaust note with the factory exhaust, nothing at all anoying. once you get a aftermarket exhaust , thats when it becomes louder

just remove the pre muffler, but leave the resonator. I thought my car sounded great with both off till i heard someone driving it and it had no bass at all, but made a buzzing ricer sound. If you get rid i\of the pre muffler it will have a little bassier sound and add like 2 hp up high.

yeah, its that big muffler right before the 2 mufflers, and the resonator is the skinnier piping thats a lil bigger than the exhaust piping. Trust me i have tried many different setting before settling on a balance of power and noise.

so remove the pre muffler but leave the resonator on? Isn't there like 2 resonators, a larger one and a smaller one? I hear people say remove the small one?

If you can can you take a picture of what the pre muffler is and where the 2 resonators are?

I'm thinking of bringing it to pepboys to get the resonator off.

there is no easy way to get the resonators off, well i take that back there is. A SAWSALL but any way, if you get down and look under your car just infront of the passenger side tires there is what appears to be a small muffler, that is one of them. and between that and your cat there is a small round one. the one BIGMAN is talking about that he removed was the one closest to the rear tire (small muffler). i have both off and its just a deaper sound with the factory exhaust on. not really any louder. but if you have an aftermarket exhaust on then it gets louder. just ceck th elink i posted earler

There is only one pre muffler, and one resonator. The pre muffler is the small muffler looking thing closer to the middle of the b pipe. The resonator is closer to the Y pipe. Do not remove the both of them. The car will sound fine inside, but you will get a buzzing sound, louder when it's cold out. I removed the pre muffler and it sounded great. Leave the resonator, because it will be less restrictive and filter out the raspy high pitched sounds. I dont have either because i have a custom cat back setup with one 2 ft magnaflow resonator. I dont recommend doing a full cat back unless you have a non Type S car. The Type S exhaust piping is big enough to maintain tourque and give HP with mufflers and removal of the pre muffler. To remove the pre muffler just go to a muffler place and get a pipe put in for like 30 bucs. Hope this helps.
