EGR Valve/Port

Hi All, the check engine light is on in my 2001 TL. The dealer said that I need my EGR Valve replaced and the EGR Port cleaned. Hoping to save some cash. Would I be able to do it my self if I buy the valve on-line. Can someone give me some pointers?

Go to the DIY thread and clean the ports yourself, reset the ECU and see if it needs any more work. Id hold of on replacing the EGR valve till you know for sure the cleaning alone isnt enough.

2001 TL EGR Port cleaning

Just did this myself. Easy. Follow the DIY link for the complete job. If you want to try something easy, take off the top IM cover plate (10 bolts) and clean the carbon out of the channels. I'd try that first. You can do that in 30 minutes. Reset the ECU code and cross your fingers

Some time in the near future im going to redo the DIY page, AND im also going to redo the DIY for the 00-03 with bolt specs and stuff. The original pics some arent available and it really wasnt done well by yours truly.

anyone who has done the job recently -with pics-
go ahead and submit pics and your write up to fsttyms1, he will pass it to the other mods for any changes or additions and post it in the DIY for all to enjoy

I'll be doing this soon.

Question: Safe to reuse the IM gasket?

Get the Outlaw or P2R kit while you're at it.

^^not really modding. Keeping the IM cooler and also adding gas mileage.
