dynoed my 03 TL-S - got questions
I took my TL-S to a dyno place after having installed an AEM CAI and Comptech headers. My car pulled 218.3 hp @ 6700 rpm and 186.3 ft/tq @ 6100 rpm. My car topped at 145 mph by limiter.
Are these numbers right?
Has anyone installed a APEXi VTEC controller? and would it help?

yeah, it seems to me that your number is a bit low. a stock one should pull about 190+. comptech claimed that header plus muffler should add about 30-35hp at the wheel. as u have installed cai and header, your babe should pull at least 220hp.

Yes the TL type S is 260Hp...but its at the crank. When you dyno your car, its all about the wheels. An avg. TL type S should go around 200hp at the wheels, but since u have headers and an intake you should be pulling up at least 225hp at the wheels. Try to dyno it again, and maybe you will have different results.

dynoed my 03 TL-S....need help
Thanks guys for your reply...I think the numbers are odd also.
Has any of you installed a APEXi VTEC AFC in your ride?
Please let me know if it works and it there are any side effects....
By the way, because the car kept topping at 145 in 4th, we dynoed it on 3rd....but I thought the TL-S have a stock top of 150... and could it also be that the people at the dyno place did
not use fans to cool down my car before and in between dyno runs?....please ....I need help here

V-AFC does not do much and is more trouble then it's worth. The only gains you'll see are about 5hp max.. and that's if you can tune it properly.
As for the dyno.. it seems about right. What you really should have done is dynoed the car stock.. then after the mods. It's possible that your car would have dynoed around 190-195 stock (normally stock dynos are from 190-200hp) which would mean that the numbers you came up with were correct.
Every dyno I've seen was done in 3rd gear... never 4th. As for the rev limiter... it should happen at 149mph.

you guys think an average pull should be about 200 hp??? That would represent a 23% loss of power through the drive train.
I strongly disagree with that. I would be surprised if it were more than 15% as that is about the norm.
Therefore 220hp should be what these cars are putting down stock.
My Corvette dynos at 459. If I were to use the same 23% power loss, that would put me at 596 flywheel hp. And thats not correct.

I agree...should be between 12-15% drivetrain looss in most non AWD cars.

Remember also that not all dynos are the same. Each one reads a little different. To be really accurate, have it done at two or three different shops. This would give you a more accurate score.

Yea, traction is a problem. I went and put 335 Pilot Sports on the rear and that has helped. When I hook up I run 11.6 at 126 mph. When I don't I run low 12's at about 120.

The auto CL-S/TL-S loses 20-25% in the tranny which puts all stock CL-S'/TL-S' between 190 and 200 HP at the wheels. I've only seen one dyno outside of that range and it was Astroboy's TL-S which dynoed at 204hp stock.
The manual CL-S is dynoing between 215-220hp at the wheel which is where the 15% loss comes in.
Every tranny is different... so using the same calculation you use for a Corvette on a TL just won't add up.
BTW... you need to start resizing your pictuers so they're smaller

My Audi A4 is a manual, but with AWD, it loses about 20% to the wheels give or take, but hell, I'm making 250+ to the wheels on pump gas so it's all good :>)
