Dummy needs help with 12v power

I bought an rca-to-ipod adapter cable for my 2000 Acura TL. It requires 12v power to operate. The cable has a black wire (ground) and red cable (power). I believe I need to access the ACC (accessory) power to get this working. The ends of the black and red wires are just raw open wires. I grounded the black wire already (that was easy). Where in bloody hell do I connect this red wire to to get power. Where does it connect to?

Do I run it to the fuse box? I see an ACC fuse there. Do I pull the fuse out, set the red wire where the fuse goes, then push the fuse back in (thus making contact). Do I look for some power source closer to where the ipod adapter is? Can I tap into other sources?

As you can tell, I've never done this before. I just don't know how it's done.

your best bet is to go to autozone and buy one of those "add-a-circuit"/"add-a-fuse" things so you can properly protect your IPOD from getting fried. the acc fuse is a good one to add it to. your ground wire can pretty much be attached to any screw behind your dash. your only limiting factor will be how long the wires are and where you want to mount the adapter really.

i hope this helps.

Or you can always tap it into the cigarett adapter.
That\'s what I did.

By tapping into the power wire. You will have to gain access to the back side of the radio to get to where the adapter plugs in, while back there tap into teh powerwire with a line tap (found at all auto parts stores).

OR

do like stated above and get a add-a-circuit. the wire simply attaches to a wire on teh add-a-circuit and it plugs into the fuse slot

OR

you can plug it into the back side of the drivers side fuse panel

get some of these

and plug it into the back side here
Dont plug it into the one circled, i believe the one you plug it into is the one below the one circled. the one circled gives power any time you have the lights on. One of the plugs are switched

I, too, did it first time in my life and worked out pretty good.
Take the wood trim piece and passenger side knee panel off.
Then, if you look behind the cigarett adapter(one underneath the radio), you will see black wire and red with white wire connected to it(if i remember correctly).
Black is for ground, red with white wire is for power.
Strip the plastic thing off from that red wire and twist another red wire from your IPOD adapter together.
After that, tape it up well with the electrical tape then you will be set.

P.S Test it out if it works before you put it all back.

.
I wouldnt do it this way with out soldering it. I would get a line tap/splice into it that way. It makes a much better connection'

FSTTYMS1 - where is the location of that photo

The photo with the slot circled? That's not the fuse box, I don't believe. Is that behind the head unit?

That is the Back side of the drivers side fuse box. Stick your head under the dash with a flash light and you will see.
