Drove an 04 TL all day & missed my 03

I had my car in for service and they gave me an 04 nice car but....

I missed my 03 tl-s

If I had to get a new car now I don’t think the o4 TL would be for me, maybe a TSX

(Cons)
the horn beeps inside the car, the dash board is like 10 feet deep, steering wheel is ugly, radio controles a hard to use & Bluetooth SUCKED D*ck

(Pro's)
nice power, nice seat's, very nice sound system, xm cool

Um, as far as I'm concerned, the steering wheel of the 3rd gen TL is a vast improvement over the 2nd gen TL.

while the TL-S is about as powerful as the new TL, there's nth much to impress me except the new hi tech stuff there like the DVD thingy...

i am still waiting for the 300hp AWD TL...the RL is ready so the TL should be coming soon with that combo to compete with the new 298hp G35

new 2004/2005 TL sucks shit. i totally agree. the 2nd gen TL are MUCH better. aside from the new technology in the new 3rd gen tl, i prefer the 2nd gen. the 3rd gens look so fucking bad from the front. side is decent, back is decent, but the front blows ass. i would take any G35 coupe over any TL anytime though. G35 coupe is sex on wheels. i want one.

I also had a '04 TL ;oaner while the dealer did the tranny recall on my 03 TL-S. The 04 is a very nice car but I too prefer the 03 TL-S over the 04 TL.

04 Pros: Steering wheel controls, nice dash display, bigger Navi screen, better stereo and wider tires/wheels.
04 Cons: Ride is softer and steering response was also slower. Seats are not as supportiveThe interior design is a bit too high tech for my tastes - bring back the fake wood. Looks too much like a Bimmer.

My 2cents worth

Where'd you go to get service? And they gave you a '04 TL Loaner?

if my wife would allow me to get a coupe (kids will be on the way soon ;-)) I probably would have gotten the G35, but the 04 TL is a sexy car in its own right.

fair enough then a g35 coupe is better than a tl, but a tl is better than a g35 sedan, so yeah i guess you have no choice then. i honestly dont despise the new tl, i just think it needs work, which im sure they will sort out with the 2006 model. every 2 years they always make changes to their models. i would recommend putting off the kids for another few years and getting a g35 coupe just a suggestion, it doesnt mean you cant continue to practice making kids

Another 3G TL hater here.

The exterior design looks like shit. They had a good thing going on until they decided to go all European and follow everyone else. Interior looks nice, but not to my taste. I'm perfectly comfortable with the interior in my '03 TL-S.

The only thing I thought I was missing out on was the 6-speed, but a lot of the professional reviews I've read stated that there's way too much torque steer with the 6-speed. No, thank you. I'll pass.

I don't look twice at the 3G TL. But a lot, almost all, of the 3G TL drivers do a double-take on mine. That says something. :P

I am not all about the new body style, to me it looks like a Maxima. Not all about the more rounded body. I thought the 2nd Generation had it right, and with the body kit the 2nd Generation loooooks great. I havn't seen the new body style with a kit on it but can't help thinking it wouldn't look right. If your going to have a body kit and a wing, I think the car should have a little bit of sports car look to it, and the new body style just doesn't have it.....

Even though I like the 3G as a complete package deal, I must agree with some of you here that the 2G is better. 2G looks more stately, even so with the OEM kit on it. 3G looks good with ASPEC kit, but it's too sporty and seems less susbstantial than the 3G.

Here's the ideal car I'd buy anyday. 2G Exterior + 3G interior = SEX

I have both an 04 and an 02 TL-S and I alternate driving the two so I really know the differences between the cars inside out. I could probably write an essay on this topic but I dont have the time.

In short....I love driving the TL-S and hearing that AEM VTEC roar. The throttle on the TL-S is more responsive due to the new 04 drive by wire throttle thing (which I hate). But as far as speed, I need to race them to reach a definite conclusion. The TL-S seems to have more low end torque than the 04, but the 04 has this weird torque peak in VTEC at 6000 RPMs that actually starts to torque steer the car a bit (which my TL-S doesnt have).

But as far as build quality, there is no comparison. Even the doors close with quality on the 04. And the new 04 Navi just kicks but. Comparing the navi screen sizes is like comparing the screen on my TV to my cell phone screen. I also love the blue illuminecent gauges on the 04.

Anyway, Im sick of typing so I'll just summarize by saying that the TL-S feels sportier to me, while the 04 seems more luxurious/smooth. I love the long elegant looks of the TL-S, but also like the new sporty/modern look of the 04. I got the A-spec body kit and it even enhances this look even more....especially when you consider the fact that the stock ride height/wheel gap on the 04 is about an inch less than my TL-S.

Each TL is special in its own way and you just have to love them both.

I'm with everyone on this one. . . I tried driving the 04 TL for a day and it just wasn't as cozy as my 02 TL-P. I doubt anyone is going to argue that the 04 isn't a great car on it's own, but when after a while you get used to the spaciousness and feel in the 2nd gen that the pimp gauges and navigation system can't make up for. Although, that doesn't mean I wont dream about somehow fitting the gauges on a 2nd gen...

The 04-05 TL is just extremely too futuristic for my tastes. The cars numbers do speak for themselves though since it's one of the best selling cars in the nation Acura made a good choice by producing it. I like the style of the 2nd gen TL's though. They show very good taste and luxury and they're pimpoliscious. The 04 very jagged and tries to give off a sporty look when it's only 10hp faster than the luxerious TL-S. Also, I like the liscense plate on the bumper better than the trunk.

Well, here we go. I traded my '03 Type S in August for an 04 TL. Obviously they are quite different cars. Here are some of my observations:

* '03 build quality (fit and finish) superior to '04
* Throddle responsiveness significantly better on '03
* Low end torque seemed better in '03 probably related to drive by wire
* '03 had a more sporty ride (firmer handling) than '04
* I preferred the BOSE sound system over the '04 sound system
* I like Bluetooth HFL
* Much more torque steer in '04 vs '03
* Rear seat entrance and exit superior in '03 due to longer wheelbase
* Leather and seating comfort superior in '04

At times I wish I still had my '03. But overall, I really like my '04.

Gotta keep in mind that one gets 'attached' to their current ride and feel 'against' anything else.

I test drove a G35 Coupe and hated it.. nice power, crap interior, the 'feel' of the ride is just wrong somehow and the seats feel like they belong in a Geo... navi can't be called navi either, it's a 'map displayer' with a "you are approximately in this general 5 square mile area somewhere" functionality, or was that navi thing in the FX? can't remember (FX sucked even more wind, feels like a hatchback on huge wheels, and performs like one too.. not to mention that it's smaller than a Mini on the inside).

I choose the new RL (the wife already has the 04 MDX, so plenty of kids room anyway).
