Drop and rubbing question

Just had CT springs & sways installed, stock rubber and wheels did not rub. Put on 17 x 7 Konig Appeals with 225/45 - 17 and now have an intermittent rubbing front and back when travelling on bumpy roads, but not consistent all the time. Purchased package wheels & tires from Discount tire and they stated these were correct for the 2000TL.

Your experience and thoughts please.

What is the wheel offset? What tires are mounted on your Konigs?

I had some time to check on your wheels and tires. Wheels are a +45 offset. The tire is about 5mm wider than stock. Your drop is about 1" in the rear. So the outside of the tire is 13-15 mm past stock and you took away an inch of clearance in the rear with the drop.. The offset is pretty low but OK. The tire make is also important because different makes have a slightly different shape, even with the same size. It is not unusual to rub some in the rears, especially with a drop. I have not encountered much rubbing coming from the front so eliminate the rear first. Here's how to do it.

Line the fender lip with some masking tape and drive, hitting some dips and bumps. Look where the tire is hitting the tape. It will be easy to see. Take a dremel and relieve these spots. Repeat this until no more rubbing. You will want to do this on the plastic 1/3 of the fender. DO NOT GRIND ON METAL! Chances are, you are hitting the infamous plastic tab where the bumper wraps around to join the fender. With a 225/45/17, I doubt you will be hitting metal.

A common noise from the front would be the sways squeeking. Did the installer wrap the bar with Teflon tape where it rests in the bushing?

I took a dremel to mine and so far, no more rubbing. I'll take pics when it stops raining outside.
How are you rubbing in the front? I have 225-45-18's with a +45 offset and I'm not rubbing at all. Oh, I have Tein SS's with a 1.5 in drop.

Wheel & Tire info

I had to check. The wheels have a 40 offset and the tires are Kumho 712s.

I will try the masking tape method to determine the problem spots.

thanks for the input.

+40 offset? Dude you are in for a lot of work. These sound like they'd be good for a 1st gen TL. They should have fitted you with +45's or higher. This explains why you might be rubbing in the front. If these are new, I'd contact the people (Discount Tire?) and return them to get +45's or higher. It would be worth the effort over grinding needlessly on your car.
