driving in snow and ice?
#2
After two winters in Chicago, the TL has been just fine. Keep in mind this is not an all-wheel drive car, and the most important thing is to SLOW DOWN.
I have the stock POS tires, which perform okay for my style of driving. They have worked for me in all weather conditions. I know other folks here have purchased snow tires for the winter and have had good success.
The traction control has also worked okay for me. If you are asking if you can hot rod around in winter conditions, then the answer is no, this is not the car for you. Get a Audi S4 Quattro and outfit it with radial studs all the way around. But you'll still have problems on ice. Hope this helps.

hello fellow michigander
i have had my tl since the beginning of 2000 and hae drove it thru 2 winters and havent ever had a problem, now theres really not much you can do about ice no matter what your driving, but driving in snow is actually a pretty fun experience, if you get the tl-s you get the VSA system which is better than the traction control, i hope this helps you make your decision.
p.s. i don't know if you remember the big snowstorm we got last winter , but i was able to drive in that and i was only 10 minutes late for work!

My TL handled great this winter in Toronto on stock tires. I have a large hill near my workplace. Several times in ice and snow, the TCS would engage when I start from a stop (there's a traffic light half-way up the hill) and I would have no problems, even while others beside me are slipping and sliding.

I totally spun out twice last winter with the POS stock tires. Sure, slow down will help, so will the VSA on the TL-S help you. Get the TL-S, or else you are on your own when you spun out he TL-P. Not that the computer can do everything for you, but it sure will help. I am glad that I went to the track before and knows how to deal with oversteer.
Damn, I think it's because of the weight distribution. I didn't apply brake, nor did I lift the throttle, but the car just snaps and goes into oversteer. And I really mean OVERSTEER!!! Gee, I was lucky the last 2 times, but NO, I don't think the TL is any good for winter without winter tires. With winter tires you will be fine...
