I do this all the time. Leave it in second gear for stop and go traffic. That way it stops the 1-2 shifting, and doesn't do 2-3 shifting. For speeds up to 20mph, 2nd gear is perfect. You can even go faster than that, and I do if I'm just going to stop again. I'd rather let the transmission run on 1 gear than 3 while I'm starting and stopping all the time.

My traffic moves fast enough so that I can leave mine in D4..thank God.

But from that thread, it seems as if SS 2nd is the best mode for super slow traffic...?

D4 for stop and go traffic- per the owner book and logic
keeping the trans in 2nd puts extra heat on the weak parts

+1...I would just stick with D4. I found this out by looking in the manual too.
