to drive or not to drive

I bought my 2003 A-Spec about 3.5 weeks ago and already i have 3000km on it..i am begining to think that i drive it to much..(if its possible) i dont mean that in the sense that it is bad for the car but that i am putting to many Km on it to fast...the reason for my concern is that in 4 yrs time it may have 150,000km or more which will decrease the value of the car conciderably and limit my options at that time. And also my warranty will be up sooner than i would like.(especially with the trany concerns)Maybe i am making too much of this ...i love to driive my A-Spec its too iresistable to just let sit..but my wife gets on me for driving it for no reason...does anyone else have any input on this or am i the only one who feels this way. i guess i am just looking for peace of mind

I've had my car exactly 7 months and 2 days.. I have 9156 miles on her, which is 14649.6 kilometers, or 2092 kilometers per month. Yes, you do drive quite often, and if you're worried about the warranty, then drive a different car (if you have another one). If not, pick up a beater and keep the mileage off.

I got my TL in begining of march 2003 and have 7400 KM on it right now..... but I do drive it daily and sometimes go the "long" way home from work..... just because I love it so much!!! Don't worry about the KM's...... Drive it like it should be driven!!

tranny issues? your aspec has the new revised version, these are alot better so dont worry. but i do understand where you are coming from. no one wants to put mileage on their cars, but if you have to, then make sure you enjoy those miles. i appreciate every minute i sit in my car and that makes putting miles on it enjoyable.

A car is a machine, after all, and its meant to be used to get from point A to point B. Drive it and dont worry about it. Sure it will be worth less when you sell or trade it in than someone who's got really low miles but whats your alternative? I have 45k miles on my 2002 TL and it bugs me a bit but if i can get 150k miles out of it then it will have served its purpose and i will be ok that it will only be worth about 6 grand when i get rid of it in a few years.

Did you get the extended warranty? If driving the car too much was a concern, why not getting the extended warranty, I did because I knew that I was going to drive it more than normal but then again was normal this days when going from here to the corner is 10 miles, don't worry and just enjoy the car.

Drive it like you stole it.

To make you feel better, I put in 25,000 miles in my 1st year alone.

[sarcasm]Yes, by all means, alter your lifestyle to avoid driving the car.[/end sarcasm]

Look, if you figure that you'll keep the vehicle 6 years or so, you're gonna have about 100k miles on it. If you drastically cut down your driving to 12k per year, you will end up with 72k miles. What is the difference in resale value between the TL at 100k and 70k? Maybe $2500 or so?

You simply have to ask yourself: "Is it worth $2500 to drastically change my lifestyle for the next 6 years?"

Personally, I don't let the idea of resale value affect the decisions I make where and when to drive. I figure, over the 6-8 years that I am keeping the car, it simply isn't worth it.
