DONE! Comptech headers installed.
Well i did it. Installed my new headers today. It took my about 3-1/2 hrs as i had to do it by myself. One thing i'm curious about are the heat shields i took off. are the new headers going to do any engine damage without this protection. Well took her for a test drive, i noticed a little difference but not really what i hoped for. Will the power improve more after the computer makes its adjustments? How long does the new breakin period take? well next mod is my Unichip that should be here in about 2 weeks or so. I want to thank our site for all the info & insite. I was really nervous about doing my header install, but after listening to you guys I just went for it. All went well!....thanks again

congrats! i bet they look great. the heat shield is not necessary. i think its mostly there to cover up those ugly ass stock headers anyways, give it a day or two... you'll feel the difference but mostly in the upper rpms.

Don't worry about the heat shields, I'm sure if Comptech felt it was critical to keep them they would have made provision for them to fit with the headers.
The gains you'll feel will be at the upper end, the lower restriction improves breathing. Like with many things in life there is a downside and it's that there is no gain in low end torque; in fact on may cars headers may lower your torque at the lower end.

thanks all. & to you fstty, ya don't give up do ya, just keep rubbin it in like i'm some kinda slacker or somethin. LOL promise you when i get my unichip it will be same day install. I can say that because ite PnP, hehehe. one thing i wanted to add about the install is man talk about torque, the nuts that were on the "A" pipe to muffler connection. my impact gun would not touch them, had to use brute strength & a lot of it!! Almost had to use a cheater bar. Dang gettin the sunday mornin itch, want to take my baby onto I-5 & open her up.

the comptech headers were $975.00 including shipping through the cl group buy. there normaly around $1100. only downfall was i ordered them in february, took a while to get here. the install went fairley well. as you can imagine the rear header was kinda of a bitch. i had to be a contortionist @ times. the only other real problem i had was the flange bolts. instead of studs they use bolts & nuts it was a real pain in the ass to try & hold the top of the bolt while tightening the nut. there were a couple of bolts I could not get a wrench on @ all. on the rear header i did a lot of my work from below, unlike other people, thank god for gear wrenches. also when working from the top on the rear header I was literally inside the hood & did much of the tightening by brale. but its done & i'm very happy! Drove her today & i definatley feel much improved power & torque from about 4500revs on. Cant wait for my unichip to get here. i've turned into a fiend i want more & more power.

oh well, if the tranny goes out i dont mind a bit, the'll just have to install the new modified tranny. In a way i welcome my tranny going out for this reason. if my tranny can't handle a few more ponies, now who's problem would that be. not mine!!!
