Do intakes help give better fuel economy???

Sup guys...just curious about intakes. I know that air filters such as the Comptech one and K&N one give better fuel economy through increased air flow. And I was wondering since intakes provide even more direct air flow then air filters do, does this help created even better fuel economy???

Opinions, advice, thoughts?

I'm in particular looking at the results the Comptech IceBox would give me.

Any and all advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

intake = hp gain(most of the times)
hp gain = more power
more power = worse fuel economy

*IMPORTANT*
intake = better sound

ronrecr is right..you get better efficiency IF you lay of the pedal..b/c of the added power, you dont need to go down on the throttle as much..

intake helps when you rev it high, and reving it high means bad on gas mileage, sort of like headers. headers gives more hp but most of it is high end, you actually loose a little low end power.

Ok...now I'm getting confused. Some of you guys here are saying that it will make my fuel economy worse regardless because of the increased HP. While others are saying that it can help my gas mileage if I stick to the same driving habits and not WOT all the time when I drive.

Can I get a consensus here? What is it that you guys all agree on? Is the answer I look for actually a combination of what everyone has been saying?

they are just saying if you have more power and you floor it all the time you will eat more gas up beacuse you are feeding more horsies that let you get your rpms higher or stay at high rpm...

but it can save you if you are drving like a grammy because you will be at a lower rpm being that you have more power and wont have to take it to a high rpm??? am i rite? or am i just as lost as vtecpino???

you are correct..

All things the same, intake would give you a little better mileage...your engine breathes better...
