actually id like to rephrase my question to how do coilovers work? what do they replace? how hard are they to adjust and how do you adjust them? basically what i want is an adjustable height car with as close to stock ride as possible

Coilovers are spring and shock combo. They have adjustable height and dampers. I have Tein SS coilovers and to adjust the height you have to lift the car and use the wrenches provided to turn the rings either up or down on the threads, this raises or lowers the height. To adjust the dampers all you have to do is turn a knob on top of the shocks clockwise or counterclockwise. The front ones you can see in the engine bay, the rears are located behind the seats, so you would have to remove the seats each time you do it unless you poke a small hole in the rear deck and stick an allen wrench through the hole into the adjuster knob. Tein also sells an EDFC which contols the dampers with a push of a button.

Teins SS Coilovers= $850
EDFC= $300

how stiff is the ride on the ground controls or the skunk 2s? i assume that these two coilovers do not have an adjustable dampener only adjustable height correct?

ok right now i have a 99tl and with stock suspension and the front wheel well gap is much larger than the rear wheel well gap. I am going to put a oem body kit on and wud like to drop it slightly and i refered to the specification for the amount of clearance givin for the type s tl with an oem body kit and comnptech springs. I measured the clearance on my completely stock car without a body kit or springs and the claearance is almost the same as the specifications for the clearance with oem kit and comptech springs. This causes me to think that i will have less clearance thean the diy states i will if i was to put on comptech springs and my oem kit. I wud not like it to be this low. any ideas? is my car only so low because the springs are worn out? (i have 130,000 miles on the car) i am just worried because i live in the country and sometimes drive on poor roads especially when i go skiing. I want to drop my car, what shud i do?
