Question Difference between supercharger and turbo?

I don't know too much about this, but what is the difference between a supercharger and turbo? Performance wise? Price?
Thanks

Good explanation of each kind of forced induction can be found here:

Hope it helps!

In my experience, supercharged engines generally live a longer, happier life than turbo'ed engines - however, modern turbos and intercoolers are now so good that they have done away with many of the inherent problems of forcing superheated exhaust back into your combustion chambers... heh.

There are some minor differences. They do the same funtion, put more air in your engine. superchargers use a belt conected to your engine to funtion. Turbos use the exhaust to funtion. with turbos you will only see a different after 3000 rpms or so. Supercharges works on all rpms....as long as you full trotle. Prices for a superchargers range from $1500 to 4,000. Turbos can go up to 6,000 or more (twin). Supercharges have to be made for your car. Turbos can be added to a wider range of cars with modifications(custom). If you want quick power for cheap money get NOS. I heard TL's could take 25 to 120 shots of NOS with no problem. 1 shot = 1 horse or so. There are NOS with 500 shots....NOT RECOMENDED. Fairly simple to install. Bunch of wires and a nitro oxide tank.

Actually, depending on the size of the turbine in the turbo, you can get boost as low as 1500 rpms. Superchargers also normally start spooling up about 1500 rpms.

I still like the idea of forcing cold air into the combustion chamber than superheated air... I've seen so many valve seats and guides eaten by turbos...

Both can be adapted to any engine - you can buy a turbo or supercharger and do all your own bracketry, etc. In general, they are about the same price from my experiences with both...

Turbo is better for high end, supercharger is more for lower end.

Downside to Turbo is turbo lag, except some factory turbos don't experience that.
