Decal/Paint Issue
I wanted you all to be aware of a problem I have with my car
Stats:
2002 TL Type S
Starlight Black, Purchased March 2001. 49,900 miles
I noticed "wrinkling" of the paint on the top of the window frame on the driverside and passenger side doors. I called my local dealer and described it. They were aware of the problem. They had seen 4 or 5 cars like this before.
It seems the "paint" that is wrinkled is in fact a decal that is used instead of paint (or so I assume). I live in the Chicago area so I assume the combination of heat and cold extremes plus lots of moisture had some effect.
The repairs is cover under my 4 year 50,000 mile warranty which you see is about up. The rear windoes showed no sign of this. If I had been smart, I would have snapped a pic of it before I dropped the car of.
One additional note, Acura tells the dealers to use a decal to replace the ruined one. My dealer will not do that. Instead, they are having a bodyshop re-paint it which I feel is a much better solution. When I was riding to the rental facility (they use rentals versus loaners at muy dealership) I was joined by a guy who had lost 3rd gear on his TL at 28,000 miles in case anyone is tracking that info.

I took my '99 in when it was still under warranty to have one window fixed and they had a body shop remove the tape from all windows and paint them. No cost to me and it looked great.
