I suspect tint laws are going to become much more prevalent in the future. Why? When the local constabulary pull a car over and cannot see what the occupants are doing, they get very nervous. Case in point, I was driving our family minivan (with factory tint on the rear side doors and the full rear of the van) on a vacation, full with adult professionals including a lawyer, and we got pulled over for "Following too close". When the officers approached, one on either side of the van, very close to the sides, and each with a hand on the butt of their side-arms, I knew they were very nervous. The passenger who was a lawyer happened to be riding shotgun that day and she and I both told the four passengers in the rear, put your hands up on the headrests in front of you so the officers can see them.

I know you can't do this in a mini van but I usually roll all my windows down when I get pulled over in order to put the officers at ease. They usually appreciate that and let me off with a warning for whatever reason I was pulled over for.

The problem is shops who ignore tint standard rules run the risk of losing their ability to perform inspections. Sooner or later most will be either out of business or at least no longer have the right to perform inspections.
