Debadging??

Can anyone tell me how to debadge the letters/symbol on the trunk? Also, if there are any holes once it is removed. If there are any special techniques, etc.

Thanks!

put the car in the sun and let it heat up a bit, then use fishing nilon or a credit car (pretty much anything skinny with enough strength) and just start peeling off.

The residue plastic glue left on your trunk can be removed with your nail or the credit card or watever you think its good as long it doesnt have a chance at scratching the paint.

Oh, the "A" (standing for acura) cannot be removed like this, its screwd in so if you remove you will have 2 holes in your trunk...of course, you can fill those up and paint them=BADASS...the letteres will come out with the heat and peal method i told above.

Why in hell do you want to debadge your TL? Are you ashamed of it?

HELL NO!! :blaze: I just saw a pic of a Honda Inspire and wanted to know what I had to do if I wanted to do a "homemade" conversion and see what other parts I would need.

GooGone helped me a lot with removing the left over adhesive. Take your time with the method above so you don't get any scratching or marring.

me and my friend (limitedTls), debadged my car. It was a quick and easy job to do. Car looks a lot cleaner without the badges. I like it.

What if you wanted to "re-badge" the car? Do you have to go to the dealer and order new badges so the sticky stuff is on the back?? Or can you use the one's you took off? If so, how do you put them back on? Is there a special adhesive you have to use? Thanks!

any plastic glue, even silicon would work...im just not sure you'll be able to redebadge it with this.
i took the 3.2TL out of my '99 and it looks balanced...taking the ACURA and the 3.2TL(-S) and leaving the "A" alone looks bad...it does look good when everything is gone and the "A" holes are covered and painted.

rock on dud :nutkick:

I'm not sure if I would use any type of "glue" to re-badge the trunk. To me, glue and paint don't mix. I would use some 3m double-sided tape. And as for leaving the "A" on the trunk, I don't think it looks bad at all. If everything is gone, it will almost look as if it is too plain. I left my "A" and "type-s" on the trunk. I guess it all boils down to personal preference. Check my pics in my sig to get an idea of what it looks like.

Looks good Pistacio!! ABP is one of my favorite colors for the TLS.. and now I got a good sense of what your debadging looks like.. because you just have the "Type S" badge left.. and I just wanted to remove the "3.2" part from the whole "3.2 TL Type S".. so it would just read "TL Type S".. I hate the #'s on the trunk.. it would almost be like the '04 that just have the "TL" on the back, but added with the "Type S".. I think it would look nice. Thanks for your help!

Use WD-40 and a soft paper towel to remove the residual glue. That stuff works like magic. It will take that glue right off. Also, if you want to do the inspire conversion, you will have to order the INSPIRE logo from a honda dealer in Japan. Or order it from someone here who has the connections. I used to remember who that was, but then again, i havent posted in this forum for over a year now.

If someone was ashamed about their car, they would probably sell it rather than debadge it. I took off the 3.2 TL- Type S from mine because it looks cleaner, more symmetric, and sleeker. Also, badge theft (esp. the Type S) is a problem in some areas I know. Besides, I was getting tired of idiots revving at me or doing things to provoke me like cutting me off. My dad drives the car too and he was complaining about the same thing. Atleast the ricers will leave me alone because in their heads Type S screams for attention and says "I am badass" or "I want to race."

I'm not sure, but I'm almost positive the "3.2" and "TL" are the same emblem(they are one piece). If they are only one piece, you will have to break off the "3.2" part of the emblem to do what you are planning. Make sure you look at it closely to see if they are, in fact, connected to each other. I may be wrong-I did it a while back-don't remember.

i confirm it...the 2.3TL are one piece...the typeS is separate(IF you have one).
If you want to do that, you can buy the TL from the 04 off this store or just rip one out of the first 04 you see around...it should take you 1minute.

It's mostly to be different. I can almost guarantee that no other TL has this rear-end.

credit card or not wouldnt have made a difference, the GTI's emblems were harder to grip than the TL's. if ur that anal about the glue prints id suggest some rubbing compound or somethin like Scratch X maybe?

Try gas. pick it up from your gastank with a little tower or watever you think its better and rub it with that it WILL COME OFF and it wont harm the paint so dont worry about that.

OR just use your nails or rub your fingers against it... dud if this dont work, then your doing something wrong...what everyone's told you HAS TO WORK...try harder.
