Dear God, I've had it. I drive an old person's car!!

[rant on]

OK, I've always bitched that I only see Premium models around town, driven by old (and I mean OLD) people.

Well, today, on my way home from the optometrist appointment, I spotted a black TL-S with body kit and spoiler.

"Oh, sweet. Maybe it's modded!", I thought. I pulled up next to the car, hoping it was modded, and hoping maybe for a good race against another Type-S.

Well, as I was coming up on the guy, low and behold, what do I see? An old guy with his wife, just going the speed limit. I was CRUSHED. Then to make it worse, the guy looks over (you know that old people thing with one eye half closed? Yeah.) and gives a dirty look, like "Why are you like 1/4 of my age but driving the same car as me?"

Damn... no wonder people never ever race me. They probably think I'm some old grandpa and wouldn't race.

[/rant off]

No, it didn't say in the owner's manual. But I'm searching online. I could've sworn that it was at least 2-piston up front.

I feel the same way.... i am driving my car around and looking at other TL drivers and they are old ass people driving these cars, most folks are not really old, but just middle aged, but still they are not going to race and stuff.... I also noted that a lot of older folks are now buying the G35, i have wanted to race one of these bad boys for a long time, but can't because everyone i see is a old fogee... wtf???

in case you guys didn't know already, the average age of owners for the TL is 45 yrs old. The target age for the TL is the late 30's to 50 range. Unfortunately, our cars are not the race cars we'd like them to be, but more of a fast family car. Kinda sad but it's true.

Thats we mod our cars a bit so it'll look more youthful. After de-badging my car. I've had lots of young kids see the car and want to race it.

The only time I see younger people driving an Acura is if they have a teg, rsx, or tsx. Near me, it's all old people driving tl's and cl's.

i always knew this was an old ppl's car, but i like it. some young ppl see my car and what i've done to it and they really like it now also. one kid that was drivin a hooked up civic told me the tl is now his favorite car after seeing mine. i still wish it wasn't classified as an old persons car. though it always will be

I've been having the same problem with 3rd gen TLs. Wouldn't mind trying to run with one ... but everytime I see one its an old lady driving it! .. I've come to realize that the TL is really just a great highway cruiser thats reasonably fast. Thats ok though since my new weekend car will hopefully fulfill my "sports car" needs

Well, I guess that I'm one of those "Old ass" guys mentioned that drive the TLS's. I'm 73, a retired DEA agent and I manage to navigate the L.A. freeways at 75-90mph (that is-when the Chippies are not around)! You see, we old guys like to driuve fast also. By the way, I also have a 911SC Porsche Targa that I manage to transport my aged old bones in!

Yes - it is a car aimed at a 'middle-aged' person ----- most 'younger' people wouldn't be able to afford the price tag (new). It is meant more for the business-person type group - not so much as a car to bought by a high number of 'young' people and then modded.

age is....

a state of mind.

Fact is, the TL is a nice little ride (even stock) for a wide variety of drivers. And it's not just the younger TL owners who are into mods. I see people of all ages getting into the mod hobby, at least here in the NYC area....

Yep, I agree the TL mainly appeals to the 40-50 age group. It was mainly meant to be a soccer moms car. The TL is a nice car but does not youthful at all.

Yea... I noticed that in Atlanta too. But I have seen some younger people driving TLs. It helps for me that my license plate says "SSM TL" and has the 3.2TL debadged, plus I have an Auburn sticker on the rear window and an Auburn plate on my front. But it can get on my nerves. Whenever I pass another TL I generally make sure I'm in VTEC range, so my CAI sounds rediculously loud. That always stirs up some excitement. I dont care if I drive an old person's car. I love my car, it has a great sound system, it handles, its pretty fast, and looks hot. I cant wait to get an 04.

That's probably true for most parts of the country, but in the NYC/NJ area most of the TL's I see are driven by the younger crowd. 20-30 age group.

Of course we noticed the same pattern; we live near each other.

I get kind of ticked off that I drive an old person's car sometimes (mainly for the lack of competition), but then I think of people like Trashman (the white supercharged CL-S at the meet) and I feel better.

AsianRage -- I get the same thing from my friends. They tell me that my car's got class, and that it suits me well. Hey, pimping ain't easy, but someone's gotta do it.

Yesterday, I decided to go out to lunch and get a quick bite to eat. Drove up to Burger King and parked in the outer lot to avoid dings. When I walked up to the front door there was a 2002 White Diamond Pearl TL-S parked in the handicapped spot.

I looked around to try to figure out who was driving it but couldn't pick them out. I sat down by the window to see who would come out and get into the car. I figured it might be a 30-40 year old. Since they parked in the handicapped spot figured they might have broken a leg or something.

Well after about 15 minutes this 65-70 year old lady with a limp walks out and gets in the car and drives away. I like my TL-S but I agree I mostly see older folks or soccer moms driving them.

It's so funny that you say that... when I first got my TL-S, my soon-to-be gf said that the TL was a "grandpa's car". Hahahaha... however, after a body kit, spoiler, exhaust, and a couple more mods... I was able to change that and make it more "sporty and nice looking".

yeah I typically only see older people driving TL's (not that I'm young, 26) but older than me. The only young person I've seen had a white TL and the moron put a huge ass adjustable spoiler on it, no rims no nothing just a big ass friggin' spoiler...I wanted to slap his mother!!!

Yeah I'm 24 and I have the stock spoiler. I think it's more of a requirement to have.

Without the spoiler it definately looks like a pure family car. I'd like to get the body kit for it too but don't feel like spending extra money, I'd rather save it.

Well having a stock spoiler is one thing but having a spoiler that is almost as high as the roof of a car is something else, especially on a TL.
