Dealer District Mgr Trying to Screw Me...
I just got a call from my service mgr at the dealership. He told me that the District Mgr is trying not to cover a bad wheel bearing under warrenty because I modified the suspension of the car. Claims the gemotry is thrown off causing the damage to the bearing. Does this sound right to you or should I try fighting it? And if I should try fighting it how so?
Please let me know your thoughts asap since I need to get back to him today.
Thanks!

sounds like a hard case to fight since it is tru .....but you might want to take it somewhere else and have it done that might cover it since warranty work is not exclusive to where u bought the car...maybe Park Ave acura

that's total bullsh*t syl!
there are many dealerships such as www.valenciaacura.com, manchester acura, etc..., that push, sell, and service aftermkt parts from comptech, aem, wildwood brake kits, apexi , skunk, etc. that warranty any damage that may occur do to a mod! my dealership installed my comptech springs, if there was a problem that was caused to another part due to the mod, it's covered! the service dept of many dealerships are encouraging and pushing aftermkt power and suspension mods. i told my buddy to go to our dealer rick case for an aem cai on his 2003 type-s. the service guy talked him into the whole comptech pkg!! springs, sways, headers and exhaust! on a leased car!!! OMG! i think you can negotiate this situation in your favor! S

Ya, my front right axle went and they (Rallye) claimed it was due tot he fact that I had Comptech Springs on the car and that they weredoing me a favor by covering it this ONE time. If they can't build a car that can support aftermarket springs they should go back to the drawing board. I have a feeling this will only get worse as cars get more technologically advanced :sigh:

I ran out the passenger front bearing on my '99 at about 65K with no aftermarket suspension mods. Had my Goodyear dealer do it and it set me back about $150-$175 if memory serves; figured my Acura dealer would have been about $250-$300 for the same thing.
A friend who also owns a '99 had the same bearing go on his at about 30K and the dealer replaced it for free; again, no mods.
I also think my driver's side one is about to go (about 98K).
I think I remember seeing on the NHTSA board about a service advisory about the bearings on the '99, but I would have thought that they would have done something about it prior to '02.

The fact is that dealers are not get paid in full for all warranty works. Say we paid the dealers $60 an hour labour rate. The Acura factory only reimburse them at a much lower hourly rate. In particular for warrantied parts, the dealers have to ship the defective parts back to Acura for examination. If proved the parts are wrongly replaced, no reimbursement will be paid to the dealers which then have to pocket the repair and part costs.

Well the verdict is in...Park Ave did verify that it should not have been covered under warrenty. I had bottomed out pretty bad once (thanks to NYC road construction) which caused me to scrape and apparently bend the sub frame enough that it eventually lead to the wheel bearings going bad. However PAA worked with me...I'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the guys over there!!! You guys definitely get 4 thumbs up
