Question Dead Tranny / Remanufactured Tranny Question

Hey guys and gals,

I have joined the dead tranny club at 111k. They are replacing the tranny but I have to pay the labor. They will be replacing the original tranny with a remanufactured one with 3yr/36k warranty on it.

I'm debating weather or not to trade my TL in when I get it back.

Anyone here care to share how many miles they have put on their remanufactured tranny or what issues they have had? Also are the trannys being rebuilt now better than those in the past?

I'm still on my original tranny, however to answer one of your questions...I have read in a post somewhere that the new tranny's are built better.

Keep in mind though some shops may still have those other trannys still laying around so you may not get the better rebuilt one.

thanks GT83 A-Spec,

the dealership that I took my TL to does atlease 2-3 a week and say that their inventory never sits for the tranny. Hopefully they are not getting it from a warehouse that doesn't rotate their inventory.

Here is the real deal
A place receives Acuras returned trans from warranty-
They take them apart-keep the useable metal parts like gears and shafts that are in spec for reuse.
Another point down the line:
For gen2 TL they grab a NEW housing/case which in 2005 was redesigned with better oil passages
It does not stop the weak clutch problem but it does help overall
In goes new soft wear parts- clutches belts etc, and used good hard parts and new hard parts as needed. All the updated parts are used.
With 3-4 trans per week per dealer- none sit on the shelf very long!
Weeks maybe, but not 3 years since the big improvement

To the OP_ why are you not getting FULL goodwill coverage???- the odometer error court case put most of us to 114,5 Indicated Miles or 7 years PLUS 9 months

KEEEP THE CAR!!!
Seafoam the engine- throw in new spark plugs and you have a nearly new car
---for under a hundred dollars
the fresh trans is worth 4 grand and will feel like a new car-

Fresh rebuilt trans with warranty,...and the rest of the car is good for many more miles~

remember the 105 service- timing belt/water pump
NEEDS to be done, about 800-1200$.. in case you didnt know

then it really is like a new car- except no payments and nicer looking IMO~

The dealer has to order these trans units on as-needed basis-
they must provide the vehicle VIN number- miles and cause of failure on a form, and call the parts distribution center, which forwards a shiiping release to the place the does the actual rebuilds and stores them as each is made...

There are a few across the country, so its usually 3-4 days from order, to leave the shelf, to dealership arrival,- then a few hours to complete the install

Green2000TL, let me give you some insight.

By the time the Acura extended tranny warranty starts expiring, 2nd gen TL/CL's will be flooding the used car market and the resale value will hit rock bottom, because not many people want to buy cars with potentially known failing trannies and no warranty unless they are dirt cheap.

Edwars'TLS, thanks for the info, but I don't plan on taking another car payment. I'll prpobably drive this till it dies again. I have a daily driver and this is my weekend car.

01TL4TL, I already did the timing belt, water pump and full tune up, did that at 104k. It already felt like a new car, that was probably the problem, fresh tune-up was too strong for the weak tranny.
