D2R 9005 9006 and what?

headlights went out on my 1999 the other day.

as i understand only the 02-03 has the HIDs. well, pulled mine apart to find an Osram Xenarc 66050 bulb along with some ballast and igniter and what not. the bulb is also a D2R

i tried searching d2r and 9005 and 9006 here on azine and google as well. from what i managed to gather the 9005 and 9006 are halogens designation and the D2 are HIDs.

so knowing that my current dead bulb is a D2R can i just go ahead and buy any D2R/D2C and it will fit or are there other factors?

i'm afraid that the 9005 and 9006 will come into play somehow and i dont wanna deal with the headache.

All 2G TLs have HIDs. You can buy any D2R/D2C bulb. 9005 and 9006 aren't just halogen bulbs, you can buy HID bulbs in those sizes as well. 02-03 TL fog lights are 9006 so when people buy HID kits for those they buy 9006 HID bulbs.

And if you want maximum visibility at night, select 4300K bulbs. (Or 5000K for Kaixen. I think that's the lowest Kelvin rating they offer.)

Higher Kelvin ratings get you blue colors but they just don't light up the road as well. Some forum members have regretted buying 6000K and higher bulbs.

i have 6K kaixen bulbs in the heads and love the way they look in and around town. every reflective surface (street and exit signs, striping on the road, tractor trailer markings, etc.) LIGHTS up and GLOWS when these lights hit them - very good in town IMO. output isn't quite bright enough for me in rural areas (deer and other critters) though. :twocents:
