CV axle re-assembly
Hi,
While removing my CV axle I accidentally pulled apart the inner joint.
I took off the boot and saw how it fits back together with the service manual.
My question is:
Should the joint loosely fit together?
Is the only thing holding the spider + rollers in place while out of the car the CV Boot?
Does the Circlip only hold the spider to the driveshaft and not the inboard cast steel joint?
Cheers

All it is that holds the inner joint together is the boot itself as seen in the video...

Also, I just re-banded it without using that special tool. Take a large pair of needle nose pliers; coil the excess as tight as possible using another tool as leverage (just like how the specialty tool works, although the specialty tool has less coiling leverage); fold it back over; fold over the locking tabs. I feel I got mine on tighter than with that specialty tool with limited leverage.
I also was able to buy one size larger and just cut off the extra strap.
I used this style from my local parts store, mine was made in the USA out of stainless, I like to see jobs being kept in North America...

You can also take a saw to an old bolt and make a tool like the one in this image:
