Thumbs down Cow needs better nutrition. TL leather sucks!!

Can you believe this?

I bought 2003 TLS last saturday( < 1 week) and yesterday,
I found half-inch long cut(yeah.. I can see inside the skin) on my driver seat. I didn't do anything other than placing my butt on it and leaving it for about less than 50 times so far. I don't carry anything sharp in my back pocket.

What a shame on so called "luxury-sport sedan"!
I will bring it to dealer tomorrow but I started to have bad feeling about TL. On my second look, the leather didn't look like genuine leather. Is it synthetic or leatherette what base 3-Series have? My 525 had no problem like this at all for 5 years.
I found some people hear had similar problem(incl. bubble seat).

Anyway, b careful u guys, u better sit easy and try not to twist your butt for anything.

myTLSucks.

Any pics? Where is the cut?

Oh and you're right on the leather. It is not full leather. Leather seating surfaces. The sides and back are vinyl.

I would think that should be covered under warranty, but I'm sorry to hear about that, I hate taking the car in for warranty related issues, I can only imagine having to do so after owning the car for one week.

Will using the heated seats "weaken" or "damange" the leather?

I have been sitting on and off on my seat for over 4 years now and my leather is still good.

Maybe it got caught on something? Anyways, since it is less than a week old, just take it back for replacement.

*Nothing* is immune from an occasional defect.
Case in point; airport screening, Acura trannies, NASA...

Get the Dealer to fix.

Hmm, what about "weakening" or "damaging" the leather w/o heating? My butt is not that HOT.

I would guess the synthetic is stronger...I have it (not by choice) on my Audi and love it. Either way, sounds like a defect. Sorry you are unlucky. The TLS leather seems nicer than a lot out there that I've seen.

I got a serious case of bubble seat. I know its not caus I need to loose a few lbs caus the passenger seat has it too and my girlfriend is only 108lbs. Well looks like I'll have to look into a two tone interior mod

I think the leather is fine compared to other cars in this price range. For those of you who have bubbled seats, I could understand how it would bubble up. The leather is tight around the foam and when you sit on it, it will stretch over time. You can't help that. I've been in 60k+ cars which had that bubble too. My leather is 4 years old and it is still perfect. It is very soft and does not have any cracks or cuts in it.

I had the same problem with my TL when I first got it. Anyway it was covered under the waranty. The repair took a while, like half a week. Bubled seat? Yeah I got that too, even after the leather was replaced it reaapeared. Material defect?

Yeah, definitely material defect. My TL-S at 3 weeks old is already bubbling up on the driver's seat. It's pissing me off. My '97 Tahoe doesn't show any signs of bubble seats.

You know... I bought this f*cking car because I trust their reputation. Within 3 weeks, what do I get? Rattles EVERYWHERE, ****ty transmission that's starting to act up with 1,300 miles, bubbled seats, crooked steering column cover, broken center console wood accent piece (the cover and the wood piece came that from the factory... so much for Quality Inspection Stations), loose speaker cover which is rattling now, by the rear window, etc.

Yeah, it looks nice and is pretty fast for a sedan and whatnot. But I didn't pay 33 grand for a piece of **** with all these problems, apparent with ONLY 1,300 MILES ON THE ODOMETER!!

F*ck Acura. The dealership I bought from has been awarded many times in the past. I don't know if they are really that good, or is good at bribing the customers. I guess we'll see when I take the car in for service in the near future.

Again, screw Acura. I thought about getting the 3.2CL Type-S, but that plan is scrapped.

Our seats are leather-trimmed. You only need to look at them to see which pieces are vinyl and which are leather.

They're really kind of decent when compared to cars in the price range; as someone already mentioned, some of which don't even get leather standard (ES, C, etc).
