cost of painting a body kit

I picked up an OEM body kit for cheap from the big sale that's going on. I couldn't get it in my car's color though, instead I went for the next closest thing: heather mist.

I will most likely need to get it painted. Anyone know how much it should cost to get painted? I just need to paint the rear skirt and the side skirts. Recommendations on LA/OC area paint shops would be cool too.

ElegantTL is looking up some info for me in some of his contacts, but I just want to see if there is any other input on this.

If it costs too much, I'll probably just try to buy some paint and paint it myself. That should be a funny sight.

I don't suppose I could go to Home Depot and get a gallon of paint color matched to my car?

i will let u know tomorrow around 12PM Josh. also, no, you cannot go to home depot. Because their paints are for houses. they do not have car paints.

what's the difference between housepaint and carpaint? Shouldn't they both be resistant to weather and UV? Hopefully both should be very durable. You're probably right that I should stick to car paint, but I'm just curious.

Hey bebber, you can ask that to paint expert Neil.

Most of paint on the vehicle is based on 2 stage paint. (basecoat + clearcoat on top) Even there are 3 stage colors, too. (base coat + clearcoat + pearl coating)

and if you get housepaint from home depot and paint it yourself, how would you apply that on the kit? using brush???

Bring those to me along with the front spoiler cause I need to match the color. I'll paint those for you $250.00.

Songoku, will you just paint them yourself? Have you done this kind of stuff before? What kind of steps are involved with painting a body kit? Probably, sanding, priming, paintining, and clearcoating, yes?

dont forget to use some flex agent, i dont know if it goes on before the primer or after the primer...but go to www.towerpaint.com and there should be a bonding agent for plastics that flex...Here is the Link to the Flex Agent

Thanks for the link, SinnedTL. $14.95 for a spray can of custom matched Dupont paint sounds like a good deal to me. This will be a lot more cost effective than going outside and having it painted for sure. Two cans of paint should be enough for the side skirts and the rear skirt yes? So looks like I'll need two cans of primer/adhesive promoter, two cans of spray paint, and two cans of top clearcoat.

I wonder if I have the skills to do the painting. Is it tough to do a decent job?

I would get 3 cans of paint and 2 cans of primer and adhesive promoter...because I painted my two exhausts with high temp paint and I used one whole can for 2 exhausts...but then I think there might be more surface area on the bodykits and you should do about 3 light coats...btw you should also buy 2 cans of clear coat also for (2 coats)....but put the clear coat on after about 1 hour drying time after the color coat....but make sure you dont paint it too thick or the paint might crack more...and after you let the clear coat dry for 1 whole day....you might want to do some wet sanding with 2000 grit paper to get rid of the blur after doing the clearcoat...but sand it really lightly and in a straight back and forth motion...if you need more info on painting and prepping...just email me at sined240@hotmail.com

i would highly advise to take it to a pro shop. don't try to do it yourself. you will be dissapointed, and then you will have to take it to a pro shop anyways.

go with songoku...its a fair price for 4 pieces.

So you need to paint 2 side skirts, rear bumper spoiler, trunk spoiler, and mugen grille?

Man~ 4 kits, spoiler, & grille.

So you need to paint them taffeta white? You sure those are not White Diamond Pearl, right? I can do $450 for you.
Please keep in mind that the price I give you is w/o installation.
PM or e-mail me.

Songoku I live in Orange County and was wondering how much it is to get my front bumper repainted by your painter... I can take the front bumper off and you just need to prep and paint (also have the two holes for the license plates filled)...Satin Silver...just wondering the price...

Why do you need to re-paint your bumper? Damaged? I need to see the bumper but something like that will cost you 250~300.
It depends on what we need to do.
