Copy navigation files from DVD to HDD
I have access to a recent DVD update for an MDX. Is there any information out there regarding copying files off of the DVD for use in a 'one region' system like in my 1999 TL. Well, I don't know really that the MDX isn't one region either. It could just be a very big reason. Ok, so here are my questions for anyone that may now?
1. Do the regions still exist but the OS has changed to read multiple regions at once?
2. Is it all one big region and can older HDD based Navis handle such big files? (This would also require a larger drive)
3. Same file format?
4. Is the OS on the DVD as well (i.e. can I just copy the entire DVD over to the HDD and have it behave like the MDX?)
5. Any more insight?
Thanks!

I don't think you'll get very far with that DVD. The flash is on the DVD (what you refer to as the OS), but the MDX system certainly has different hardware that it's designed for.
Good luck - let us know if you actually get something to work. (If anything - I would stick to comparing and try replacing data files only and forget about the OS.)
Make sure you have a backup of all data files you swap out.

We've tried very hard to adapt DVD files to the 99 hard disk TL system. We don't believe it can be done. This is mostly due to the fact the navi disk must be formatted as FAT which limits it to 2Gb. The navi unit proms won't interface with a FAT32, NTFS, etc disks even though there are 5Gb drives we could stick in the pcmica slot. And the data on the dvd is not broken into regions so no way we can figure to extract the more updated data for one region or multi regions ie at least get more data such as 2Gb of data at a time.

We could use a contact at NavTech that could gen us a 99 TL specific set of files and use a 2Gb drive, we could then break the US into quarters!!! And also would be cool to generate what is needed by a user, I need GA to CA, someone else could use NY to FL.
