Cooler running thermostat for a 2000 TL

Greetings to all,
Has anyone replaced their OEM thermostat for the engine to run a little cooler
than the original 78 degrees C ?
If so, I'd like your observations on how the engine runs w a cooler thermostat.
Thanks.

Hey, I just replaced mine with a Mugen thermostat and fan switch. I did it because other members running with SC's recommened it. I didn't notice it running any different but here's Mugen's write up:
This thermostat has the operating temperature set lower than normal. It prevents engine power loss by minimizing rapid water-temperature rises under harsh conditions such as during circuit driving. The use of a flow-control-type valve prevents hunting, thereby achieving rapid stabilization of the water temperature (the engine warms up within a short period). Operating temperature: 68°C (STD.: 76~80°C) Full-throttle acceleration temperature: 81°C (STD.: 90°C)
And the fan switch: Activates cooling fan at 80°C instead of the stock 93°C. Requires use of Mugen low-temp thermostat.

These stats are for the Prelude but you get the idea. Hope it helps.

The quote from Mugen says it all "It prevents engine power loss by minimizing rapid water-temperature rises under harsh conditions such as during circuit driving."

Do you plan on doing circuit driving? Probably not, so I wouldnt even worry about it at all. It may be necessary if you mod the hell out of your car and plan on driving it like that...

Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's bobsled time...COOL RUNNINGS!!!

I saw "cooler running" in the title and I immediately thought of that movie about the Jamaican Bobsled team from 1988. That's good stuff.

By the way, I'm new here.

Mugen thermostat

Type S Lady,
Appreciate your reply.
A few more questions.
1. Your temperature gauge, where is the needle positioned now with the
Mugen thermostat installed.
2.Where can I purchase one and for how much did you pay for it-
thermostat and the fan switch.
Thank you again.
