Post Confirm sound when you lock the car with remote...

Well, It finally happened....after almost two years, that confirm honk(2000+ version is a beep, a-la Lexus) that sounds when you push lock on the remote twice finally went from a weak horn to a weaker muffled farting sound.. My guess is water may have went into it.. I was cleaning the snow off around the windshield wipers and the vent with the hood raise to I can clear the vent completely for the heat to work properly.. Got home a few hours later and double tapped the lock button to hear that nasty sound.. Anyone?

Could it be the battery in the remote? I have mine for over two years now and sometimes it acts up. I have to push it a few times before I hear the beep.

Let me know when you find out what's wrong with it.
Thanks.

That has nothing to do with how loud the horn sounds...I think either water got in it, or it's just dying.

Cool

Ed, maybe you can replace the "horn" sound with the cool "beep" that the newer TL's have.

Sorry Ed, I read your post wrong.

I doubt it's the water because it would have happened a long time ago.

BTW, what does it sound like in the new TL?

Is there a sound when you lock with remote? I don't hear anything since the first day, you have to press twice to hear the sound? why is that? i normally only press once, and there is no sound. I am confused.

I have the same problem. I thought it was because I had to relocate my horn as a result of adding the CAI. But I called my service guy and he said there is a service bulletin for that problem. Considering it's nothing major, I am going to have them fix it next time i service my car. Thanks for the 411 Ed!

They set it up like that as a confirmation that the alarm was armed...push it once, the lights blink and doors lock, push it again within 5 seconds and in a '99 it will honk a weak horn, and 2000+ it will sound a little beep.

I've never heard a sound from my Y2K at all -only the lights blinking on and off. Is there a way to "engage" the remote so it does this? I must have missed it in the manual if so.

Then I wondering, is it possible to re-program the beep to like... Press once and it will beep, and beep twice when unlike, just like the Lexus... BTW, the RL do have that feature, Beep once when locked, and beep twice when unlock! Have any of yall though about this, and know how to make it that way? Thanks..

Thanks, Shoof! I guess you have to do it real quick, because otherwise the lights just blink a second time. I'll try it.

My old car's security has this press once on, press again off feature & I hated it : did't know whether it's on or off if you don't see the car (say around the corner). This current TL has a better way to let me know the current condition : press once I can hear the door knock closed, press it again the lights flash once & a high pitch beep confirms it's locked indeed. Man I like these fail safe features
