Clunking in the front end? Check the top hat nut
Part #15
http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...13s0k0_b28.gif So I've had a clunking noise whenever I went over bumps. I've had the car up in the air more times than I can remember and couldn't figure it out. I'm dropped on TeinSS and the adjustment screw for the damping has a rubber cap on it which hides the top hat nut from view. I thought maybe chaning the damping would make a difference and as I'm changing it on one of the coilovers I notice the nut on one side is torqued down much lower than the other one. So torqued it down to the proper specs (thanks Tim) and no more clunk. This will apply to those on stock suspension as well. |
Those loose nuts can be a problem- :chuckle:

I will need to check mine, I still have the hissing sound when going over pumps, and clunking noise when riding on rough surface. Thanks for the tips.

Same prob on my buddys 3g, now mines doin it.

The rubber strut mounts can also wear down and cause a clunking when the wheels turn at slow speeds.

:werd: I got the 3rd gen TypeS bushings in a box in my garage I need to replace. Kris has installed them and they are perfect fit and a beefier than the 2nd gen ones.
Thanks. |
I hear a low cluncking sound sometimes when i turn at slow speeds, I cant seem to tighten the bolt #15 ur talking about, it just keeps on turning, it never tightens. Im on Tein Basics btw.

you can develope `muscle memory` by trying to tighten a fitting with wrench or ratchet
See how much force it takes to hit resistance- thats torque spec Now you have that amount trained into your brain and can recreate thats how many techs do spark plugs--after a while you know what 14 pounds is with x force appplied to tool in general- I would get to Harbor Freight Tools- correct tool for the job always on sale there- under 20 bucks NOTE always self calibrate a torque wrench by testing it on tighten- same as muscle memory test- see what it reads, now you know the calibration error if any..a pound off at 14 isnt a big deal,,but 5 is |
I had a similar problem with mine. It made noises when i turned the wheel and drove around bumps. I ended up replaces the front struts, struts mount bushings, upper control arm, and upper and lower ball joints to resolve the noise issue coming from the front suspension.
|
I had a clunking in all 4 corners...The fronts were the bump stops and the rears I will be replacing the end links soon.
