Cleaned my CAI filter today - I highly recommend you check yours

Dear god was it dirty. Black as night. I sprayed it heavily with Eimann Fabrik High Intensity Cleaner (Strong stuff) and let it sit for about 15 minutes before dunking it in a bucket of hot soapy water. I swear I had to run water through it for at least 15 minutes before it came out clear.

I guess I gained back about 10 HP that I lost from all that junk.

Anybody spray their filter with WD-40 instead of the K&N stuff? I heard it works just as well. Just need something that will let the dust and dirt stick to it.

I use to spray EndDust (furniture dust cleaner) on my new K&N air filter on the inflow side. It coats it and makes subsequent cleanings easier. When I clean, I spray liberally with WD40 and use soapy hot water also. Remember to just air dry flat so the cotton fiber doesnt move out of place. Dont use a hair dryer or put it in the clothes dryer as your cotton fiber WILL shrink.
Before installing it back I use a fine spray of WD40 on both sides and then EndDust on the inflow side. I had 160,000 on that filter before I sold it. (I washed it 3 times at 50,000 each)

With all the salt and snow and crap that kicks up on your car, it's a necessity.
