Check Engine Light Serviced
After 1400 whole miles, my "check engine" light went on. The car seemed like it was running fine when it went on. Took it on Friday to Keyes Acura in Van Nuys. They didn't say specifically what the problem was, only that it happens, and they uploaded some update into my ECU. Got the car back and it seems to run better, more responsive. Anyone else have this happen this early on?

I just call the acura dealer about an update to the ECU. They said no such thing. I wonder if they (Keyes Acura in Van Nuys)are the only ones that have it. I would love to get an update to my ECU. Could you please post more info, thanks.

I'm sorry if I made the "fix" sound more impressive than it was. My service rep was actually pretty vague about what was done, and my characterization of the "update" may not be entirely accurate. I just sent an e-mail to my service rep to get a better description of exactly what they did. I understood that he sent the reading to Acura, and they sent him a fix. I got the impression that he did more than just reset the light. I'll clarify what was done once he gets back to me.

Is your TL a 2001?
Cuz that is a common problem on the 2000 TL. I am just wondering if 2001 TL have the same problem.
btw, I hope your engine check light won't pop up again...... Cuz mine does, and that drives me crazy.....

I have a feeling that Shyne is right.

Holding the RESET and SELECT buttons will clear the Maintenance Required light. That's only a service interval reminder.
The Check Engine light is only illuminated when the ECU has identified a problem. There's no pushbutton technique to clear this... the problem should be investigated and corrected or the light will return even after clearing it with an OBD2 scan tool or the Honda PGM-FI tester.

Got a call back from my service rep. Shyne was right, it was only a reset. However, it's a reset they need to do (as opposed to the "need service" light which we can do). In any event, the car is more responsive after the reset.

They probably just took your battery cable off for a second to reset the check engine light.
