Check Engine Code
I was driving home from school today on the highway and my check engine and TCS light came on. When I got home I checked the code and it came up as "P0740". My car has 156k miles and I really haven't had any transmission problems. I've searched for what it means and it's almost like it could mean anything, have any of you had this problem?

P0740 is for most of us a dreaded warning of future transmission failure.. and It MEANS a Lot at least for this Forum.
Its HIGHLY Unlikely your Torque Solenoid fails in the lifetime of your vehicle so Odds are you are in for an AV6 Transmission Swap in the nearby future

P0740 = Problem in Lock-up Control System.
How does the tranny fluid appear and smell ? Is the level up ?
Have ya attempted a drain & fill, replacing filter, or cleaning solenoid screens yet ?
There's a possibility that the lock-up control solenoid or lock-up clutch pressure control valve is bad.
How is the tranny shifting ? Is it slipping ?

Warning! Before throwing any money into repairing your transmission be aware that if you bring the car with that code, almost 10 out of 10 shops will tell you that the tranny needs to be replaced..
Do whatever you can to keep it going but keep your options open. I would start also by cleaning the solenoids and changing out tranny fluid(only if its dirty).
