cheap headlight restore fix

i went to advance auto the other day to pick up some soap and noticed turtles headlight restore kit for 10 bucks. so i thought for 10 bucks it will be risky but what the hell i was planning on wet sanding them soon anyways.

i have to say it worked very well. my passenger headlight wasn't too bad to begin with but had an annoying haze that was pretty noticeable so i cant speak for everyone. but every other week or so i would use some of the plastic X and buff it out a bit but it never really cleared it the way i wanted. but this turned out pretty good.

comes with 4 different grit sandpaper and a polishing compound and a spray lube for sanding. took about 15- 20.

just thought id let others know. sorry i dont have any before and after pics but i will try to post some when i do my girls accord.

yeah. i used very light pressure when sanding. probably about 10 minutes on the first grit until i could see the oxidation was gone. and then proceeded to run through the other grits.

but like i said mine were not horrible, but enough to bother me. they always looked dirty. my headlight began to oxidize after i scrubbed the shit outta it one day with a brush to get bugs off and i guess i scratched the coating off.
if you used plastx and it worked pretty good then this should do the trick even better.

i used plastx the next day to buff it out even more.

good luck

Worked way better than the plastic x! I can still see the oxidation buy i have to be right in the front of the headlight with a glare of light on it. From a distance i cane see it anymore. Sweeet.

I used some metal polish I had laying around on a different car w/ hazy lens & it worked great. No sanding needed.

No pics, traded the car off- note, I've only used it on plastic headlight lens, no other type of plastic.

That may be condensation.. Check if water gets in your headlights, if so open them up, clean them, maybe even clear/paint them and re assemble making a good seal.
