Question Changing Spark Plugs !! Screwedd!! Help Please

hey guys i have a 99 acura tl , have multiple misfires...got the compression test and everything tested ...the engine seems to be very strong..the mechanic wanted $400 just for the labor to change the spark plugs and the coil pack...after changing the coil packs , and installing the spark plugs...the car has lost power , the check engine light blinks when accelerated, indicating a mis-fire....the mechanic said the spark plugs were not tight enough....i checked again and they seem tight....what possibly could have i done wrong..!!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP...??? ANY SUGGESTIONS...RECOMMENDATION...WOULD HIGHLY BE APPRECIATED....

what spark plugs are you running
what codes were the misfires determined by
how many coil pack were installed
Usually one coil pack dies and code says 3 cylinders are misfiring
The coil packs are fragile like light bulbs and will quit after handling or just on age

what do you mean the plugs seem tight
when you installed them you either used a torque wrench or the method on the box right?
snug, but more than finger tight

Does it sound funny like a washer for the plugs got stuck and now there are 2 washers on one plug?

12 foot pounds torque is spark plug setting,
or if no tool, whatever the box says- usually fingertight PLUS 1/3-2/3 of a turn additional

Crank it in there and break it off- what fun~

Don't over tighten them.
Check the boots on wire might not on all the way.
Check the gap on the each spark plug.
Make sure they all looks the same.
I had one spark plug with to much gap before.(brand new off the box)
And also check the coil pack, make sure the wire on right.

I thought I read somewhere on here that it was 13lbs. Does 1 lb make a huge difference?

The correct torque number for 2000 TL is 13 lb-ft. The gap is 0.039-0.043 in. Torque the spark plugs when the engine and the plugs are COLD!!!

Find another mechanic. That guy's an idiot that's ripping you off and not fixing anything. Get the car diagnosed and find out what codes you get besides the misfire codes.

Yeah sounds fishy. Get the code read at autozone and go from there. And do not freakin tighten until you can't tighten anymore. Thats horrible advice. Stripped spark plug threads are not fun I had to deal with that in my truck and wow that sucked.

if its shaking WHILE accelerating, theres a bad plug, be4 it didnt do it, so all u had to do be4 was change the spark plug, but now, seems like one of the coil packs is back, u can do it urself and switch some coil packs up, or take it to another mech..

HOLY COW THIS IS SOME BIG NEWS !!!!!!!!!!! YOU GUYS WONT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TODAY...so previously like i said i took my car to the mechanic (i had changed the coil packs before..all 6 new coil packs) and he was charging me $400 to change the spark plugs...which i agreed to..than the car was running perfect...i refused to pay tha amount so he took em out.....i changed the spark plugs my self again , but it didnt make a difference...so i took that car to a different mechanic ..he diagnosed the car ..this is how he diagnosed it..!!!!
he disconnected the cable on top of every coil pack to check if the engine ran any rougher...apparently 1 coil pack ,cable disconnection did not make any difference..so the mechanic told me it was the PCN COMPUTER THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED AND AN ESTIMATE FOR $700 ........when i came back and checked the coil pack my self..after pulling out the coil pack i noticed THE FIRST MECHANIC STUCK A PIECE OF PAPER INSIDE MY COIL PACK..which made me get all the random misfire codes and the car ran rough...after replacing the paper...the coil had been damaged so i used one of my old ones...and it run beautiful now..!!! end of my nightmare....and learnt a big lesson how messed up and how far and dishonest the mechanics are willing to go just for a little bit of money ...

REPORT this to your state board that licenses shops- consumer affairs- local news etc.

the name of the place should have been a tip off to you to avoid them
and whenever a sleazer doesnt do the right paperwork and doesnt get paid-
they WILL dick with your car- the ol paper in the plug wire trick- ahhh thats always a good one!!

What an Asshole, I'd Totally go back and shove a wrench up his ass to see how well he can walk for the rest of the week.

Well I guess I'm over doing it there, but I really hate it when people are dishonest and try to screw things up for you.

Anyways, I'm glad you've diagnosed the problem. Your next step is the give that guy a little surpise.............

well i know i kind of learned it the hard way.....well i didnt pay him anything at all cause when i refused to pay him $400 , he had my car opened up , meaning my intake box and everything...he didnt even put it back up...he just closed it wherever did his thing with the engine sticking a paper inside the coil pack and closed the hood the way it is...while on the driver side the hood was a little bit lifted...i opened the hood and rearranged everything myself and closed it properly.....whatever im done with grimy cheating and fraud mechanics...thanks alot for all your support and feedbacks...but i did learn my lesson...

555 you need to take action with the legal forces
Prevent someone else from getting the same treatment

Most every aziner knows to come here after any diagnosis and get it confirmed

The paper in the thing and not reassembled correctly- thats bad-
I was in the industry as an honest guy-
call the law!!!!

Yeah just kidding. I HATE shady mechanics. My dad paid a purrfect auto over here like 2500 to fix his car and the damn thing never ran at all after that. He ended up having to give it away.
