Change motor mounts with transmission

I have an appt to have my transmission changed this Monday 10/29/07. I have read it is significantly cheaper to change the motor mounts when the trans is out ($150 vs $600?). Based on that, I plan to ask for a thorough inspection of the motor mounts while it's being worked on.

My question is, should I take this opportunity while I have it and change them anyway? I mean, they're going to go bad eventually, right? If they're bad already, I can get it covered under my extended warranty. If they're not, I might be inclined to pay $150 now instead of $600 later. My warranty will be expiring in a couple of months (based on calculating out my 150 mi daily commute).

Whether you will ask them or not, they will tell you either it is good or bad. If they give you a good deal to replace the mounts, go for it.

What if they give you a good deal to replace the mounts even they are not broken.

If you have warranty coverage- they are definetly broken!!- make sure the service writer puts on the invoice- customer states engine shakes
They will check the mounts and advise
The techs know that 90% of TLs getting trans need a front mount

Get it done one way or the other while trans is out

The front seems to go most often- followed by the passeger SIDE mount, then the rear.
some years had vac assisted fluid filled mounts front/rear, thats who needs the replacements with trans most.
A small puddle of odd fluid on the driveway is the tip off to failure

The 4 inch round topped one in front of the engine- bottem center as you look past the radiator

passenger side is on the passenger side- its the only thing that hooks from the engine to the body there

search or scroll thru the main thread list and DIY section- there are directions and pics- use caution and floor jack.
azine sponsor oeacura.com has great price on parts
dealer gets 120 front + 30~ for the side- thats just the parts price!!!

I hear the rears rarely go bad. its the front and side that usually get changed. I had mine done and it made a noticible difference.... They didn't leak oil or appear to fail but i did have engine movement while doing a brake/throttle test with a mechanic overhead.

Do you have to undo the bolts on the rear in order to change the front mount? It's difficult to get to the bolts on the rear mount. The side one is simplest.

Ok I made the mistake of not changing the mounts when I got my trans replaced under warranty. I thought it was a sales pitch. the dealer told me the front and side engine mounts were cracked. And now I can feel it. Anyone get this done on its own? If so how much were the front and side engine mounts and how many hours labor and total bill.

I recently went in for some basic maintence, and told my service writer I could feel the engine move/shake upon acceleration, they changed out the front mount without question. Why pay at all if you are under warranty? That's what you paid for.

Buying my car certified has already justifed all the warranty work I have had performed

-New Rim
-New front motor mount
-All new window frames/moldings
-Clock light replacement
-E-brake adjustment
-Lubricate all hinges/locks/moonroof
-Outside temp dislplay sensor

Quick Question tho...what warranty are you asking bout. If your referring to the transmission warranty..it shouldn't cover the engine right? Cause they told me I believe 100k or 8yrs whichever comes first on my 03 TL-S transmision..but does that also include front mounts as well? cause my Mounts are shot like crazy. Can someone clarify it for me. I think my normal warranty is over right.

Mounts are not warranty unless certified car or under 50k miles
Its not a sales pitch, common failure of front mount, is easily seen by tech and replaced in .3 hours with trans removed. Side mount very common as well.
Part is 100-120$ depending where you buy
With trans installed book say 3 + hours
Its just bolts and loss of a few layers of human skin~

Use the search for a thread on replacement
If you own a floorjack and basci tools- compressor helpful...

the 7 year+9 month or 109k mile warranty is based on VIN number
Register your car and know, everyone should also register on acura.com

Thanks..i just wanted to clarify that. Yeah..my transmission is warranty under acura..they gave me the paperwork and contract saying it's under warranty. But definitely my mounts are shot..i can feel the engine vibrate and shift as I hit bumps and everything. I guess I mightest well change all of them..since i gotta do a 75k maintainence. Have them do it all. THANKS!

You're not letting the dealer do the 75 and the mounts are you??- go find a private shop

Yeah..im going to buy the parts and have my own shop install them and do the 75k maintainence. Dealers..I'm pretty sure they are going to charge me a minumum of $600 dollars to install just the mounts.
