Cant take it out of Park HELPPPPPP

I have an 02 TL type S and I cannot take my car out of Park. I know about the emergency release which i am currently using but can anyone tell me why this is happening. If i take it in to the dealership is this something that will be covered under warranty since i bought the extended warranty.

Dont have a Type S but

All I can say check the fuse box, because the same thing happened to me. My car wouldnt get out of park, I though my tranny was jammed, Im like WTF!!. But then my radio wasnt turning on, and the only soultions to that was my fuse. I opened the box, and saw one fuse ( forgot which one ), fell and was on the floor, I put it back in there, and it seem to work. Hope it helps!

Dunno if it's related but that shit happened to me before in my 1997 accord V6...took it to the dealer and they said it was b/c i changed the reverse bulbs.... some how they shorted some computer crap... and that's why it happened.. Didn't know too much about cars then... All i knew was that my parents were pissed that they had to pay 300 bucks for them to look at it and replace the reverse bulbs with the OEM ones (since i replaced them with blue ones). ha

if you checked the fuses and they are ok, most likely its your brake switch(as many have had this happen here). I would imagine it would be covered by the extended warranty?? If not its not hard to replace your self. Its under the dash mounted to the brke pedal

I am taking my car in to Sterling Mccall Acura in H Town. I have to tell you, these guys really take care of me. Any problems i have had, they always give me a loaner, they always check my breaks, clean my engine at no charge. Well the free engine cleaning is going away but i am happy with the service i get there. I had a leak in my rear view mirror and the service manager took care of it.

I've had this problem about a month ago. It was the brake lamp fuse that blew, it is in the underhood fuse box, I just replaced the blown fuse with a spare one that the car came with. No more problems ever since. I forgot what fuse it was but it was the brake lamp fuse for me.

It was a 20v yellow fuse.

Have you tried just turning the wheel left and right a couple of times? You won't be able to move it too much, so don't pull too hard. Every time I've had that problem, I just need to do that and you can hear/feel something click and then I can move it out of park.

Also note that you can't shift out of park if the break pedal is not depressed; there is a locking mechanism. With the key in the ignition, motor off, if I depress the brake I hear the lock clicking from beneath the shift gate plate - you should hear similar. It could be a simple as this lock/switch not working.

like fsttyms1 said its most likely the brakelight switch. this happened to me b4. it was changed under warranty. have someone go behind your car while you press the break, if the breaklights dont come on then its the breaklight switch. i had to stick something in the shift release (little slot on the shifter plate) so i could get it out of pak and drive it to the dealer. but if u do that u most likely you wouldnt have any breaklights.

part #36750-s84-003
i was quoted between 41 and 51 dollars here is orange county. you need 14 mm wrench and about 5 minutes.

i can shift out of park again and brake lights now work.

Stick your head under the dash (with a flashlight if you do it at night) and look up. Its the switch that is higher up on the brake pedal arm.

Its circled in red
