Question Canadians TL owners, are there many cases of transmission failures as well?

This is weird, because several of my friends have TLs as well, and they never had problems with their trannies, even though some of them drive them like they stole them :wow:

I have seen so many TLs and TL-Ss on the road, and not many in the service centres, and the parts department said they never heard of problematic trannies here, only in the states, and that the only problem of the trannies are some bad seals...

but I know I'm supposed to take their words with a grain of salt anyways

any inputs will be greatly appreciated

don't worry about the tranny problems...if u r not hitting VTEC very often.,...

tranny failure mostly becoz of under hard driving and stay at high rpm for a long pd...that makes the tranny oil overheated and result a failure

but i'm just wondering if there are many cases of transmission failures like there are in the states, i just don't feel happy knowing that my car might one day blow the transmission on me
you know... sense of security :p

isn't the tranny prob only for tl-s models? maybe it only happens on the US model :p if the parts dept guy u were talking to is right.

i can't imagine how u can be constantly hitting VTEC staying at high rpm. that'd be really abusing the car. most ppl don't drive like that unless you're racing every night of the week!

uh... I do have a TL-S

man, this is not making me feel any better

but it just seems so rare here of hondas/acuras having problems, including the TLs

I don't know, but no worries, if the tranny fails before the warranty expires, great, but if not, then i'll just sell it and get a new car

maybe I wasn't too clear on this:p

many people who have had their trannies fail insist that they drive slow, so I'm kind of confused, maybe they don't know to warm up their car, or if there is a design flaw

if a tranny fails and you're not constantly redlining the sh*t out of your car, it's most likely that it was defective.

If you need more info, your best bet is to use the "Search" function

I was at the dealer last week and was talking to the mechanic at Acura and they said they never had any 2000 and up TLs with tranny problems. However, 1999 had some minor issues. Unless they are not telling the truth, it looks like it happens mostly in the states. However, how can that be cuz they come out of the same factory out of the states???

I think I started a similar discussion a few months ago. Not many Canadian TL's with transmission problems. Perhaps it has to do with heat (ie: warmer in the states?) Also, even though they are from the same factory, there are some minor differences (ie: larger windshield wiper fluid reservoir, low washer fluid warning light, automatic daylight running lamps, etc, in Canadian models).

I don't think the reason we in Canada have minimal tranny failure is the weather here, as many States have the same if not worse weather. For instance, the weather in Ontario is way better than Buffalo New York. Also, British Columbia has minimal cold days.

I think the main reason is numbers. There are so many more in the USA, than in Canada, more TLs, statistically there will be more reported problems for those few that have problems.

Yup, I agree. But don't forget that if you use SS mode all the time and redline before changing gears, that may cause the tranny to die prematurely. I don't think the SS was meant to be used on a daily basis.
