Canadian TLers. How much km do you get on full tank??
Can't help but bitch about this topic. I know I'm not the firdt to talk about it. Just wanted to know how much km do you guys get on a full tank of gas. Given that its winter and our cars don't exactly sip premium gas, I really think that I should get more than 400km on a full tank! Tires are well inflated, K&M air filter, passive/agressive driving.
i think it might be a couple of reasons why my mpg continue to sux ass.
1, I'm at 104k km and may need to change my pluggs.
2, i have these horrible no name winter tires that I think are part of the problem.
what do you guys think? Will doing an EGR cleaning help much or even seafoam as well

I only do city driving w/ the TL-S really. Not on the highways much at all, so I get around the same...anywhere from 400-450km on a full tank. I was pretty shocked at first (especially compared to the wife's 4 cyl. Accord), but I understand this is pretty standard "economy" for TL's and city driving.
I changed my plugs a couple of thousand km's ago. Smoother idle, better response, but didn't really notice a big change in fuel economy, in terms of gains.

The most I've ever had was about ~620km right as the light came on, but that's all highway, including some stop-and-go garbage on the 401 getting through the GTA. Mixed, I get 500km when the light turns on. And strictly within the city, I get 400km per tank, except the winter where a few times I only got 300km! Sometimes I drive pretty aggressively but I typically take it easy...it's a lot less stressful.

In summer, about 500km when the light comes on to refill. In winter, about 400 to 450 depending how much idling I do to warm up in -30C weather. Ethanol blended gas sucks in terms of mileage and using non-blended gas gets me about 30-40km more per tankful in comparison. I have 03 TLS with 52xxx km.

Do Seafoam treatment fully with 2 or 3 cans total.
New NGK Iridium or Platinum spark plugs
Make sure K&N is not dirty or over-oiled during recent service- common prob
Spray clean inside Throttle Body
Yes the engines went from 3.0-3.2-3.5 so mileage may suffer on newer cars
Tires with great traction also reduce mileage so its a trade-off there

Mixed city/highway driving ... about 450km before I fill about 48L. In the summer, the fuel economy improves.
Best mileage I ever got from the car: 720km before the light went on. Highway 401 from TO to Windsor going 120km/h, no stops, no A/C, windows up! I thought I was driving a diesel that day ...

Yea for sure.
I got my 06 TL auto just in November so my TL has not gone through a summer yet.
I get around 400-430km per tank. Mixed highway and city.
But remember that in the winter since it is colder, things are alot more dense so fuel gets consumed a bit more.
Remember that time in mid march we had a week of 10+ degree weather?
I noticed my mileage went up a bit cause it was warmer. then the next week it went back down cause it got cold like a b&*$%.

I went up to Ottawa this weekend and drove a little while back down before I had to fill up. I ended up hitting 700km on 53 litres of fuel. That's about 7.6L/100km (31.2mpg). I may have been able to squeeze some more but the tire pressure on the driver's side tires were a little low, especially the rear tire. Plus I'm overdue for an oil change...but I'm not sure how much of an effect that would have, if any.
EDIT: Oh yeah, going 115-120km/h, no A/C.

I usually get more than 550 km per tank mostly highway but with some stop and go with a little bit of 5500-6000 RPM. I'm never bellow 500 km. But latelly I had an average of 450 km so I just did the seafoam and change my spark plugs (Iridium IX) and should have a good improvement. Best I ever had is 670 km.
I have a 2003 TL type S with 148 000 km. Still running very smoothly. Great car.

I guess I have a lead foot then!

06 AT, I only get 440km for the first few tanks during the break in period, under 2k rpm shift point.
I now have 8700km on the dash and am constantly getting 360 to 380 pure city driving... try to shift as much as I can at 2500 rpm. I notice turing off the VSA doesn't save much gas cause I'm too happy to accelarate all of a sudden when I feel itchy on my foot w/ the VAS off.
Shift point is the biggest impact on gas mileage.... But I only get 400km at shift point 2500rpm compared to 360 to 380km when constantly shifting between 3000 to 4000rpm. I figure I can afford $7 on gas for the joy of driving, not for the envoirnment though.
Also the tire pressure, I have my tires pressure set at 35PSI compared to 33 recommended by factory. I just like the firmer feeling and it's easier on gas too w/ higher tire pressure. Don't do it if you worry about premature tire wear in the middle of the tire.
Now I don't know if I could get 430km per full tank if I am constantly hitting the redline.... am I missing something here? Is the 2G a lot easier on gas compared to the 3G?
Peace.
